Fevered Nonsensical Ravings of a Lunatic Mind
you have been warned.
havent made a journal yet & comic review 1/11/07
Hello all who manage to stumble this way.
I just realized i've been on gaia for nearly 2 years and have yet to make a journal.
i'm trying to make that a resolution.
Things to use it for:
bullshit
drawings
photos
brainstorming ideas for writing
bullshit
comic reviews (going to try for weekly)
more bullshit.

Ok! so lets kick things off with a comic review for this week!
Spoiler Warning on!
only 2 titles for this week
52 week 36-
For those of you unfamilliar with this title, and those who read comics and dont pick this title up (why arnt you?), you will often hear me praise this title. The writing team of Rukka, Waid, Morrison, and Johns has continuosly crafted an intreaguing story of a year without the big three (superman is depowered, and Batman and Wonder Woman are off traveling the world to "rediscover" themselves). The series has been consistantly excellent, and has shipped ON TIME (take note marvel comics). This week was a bit of a downer however. Not quality wise, but because they killed off yet another member of the famed Justice League International. Animal Man dies (albeit in a rather cheap shot where we dont see him get physically attacked...i blame the artist as his creator is one of the writers) while Lobo escorts him to Lady Styx who sees fit to destroy pretty much anything in her path. Lobo breaks his vow of pacifism to the Fish God and goes on a killing spree. Great to see him back to his old self. Plus as far as the Question story arch goes, it has been sad to see him dying off from cancer (hell of a way to go mind you), but there may be hope for him yet as Montoya is taking him back to where they were before heading back to Gotham. And finally, Rip Hunter (Time Master) is finally revealed to be hiding out in the Bottled City of Kandor. Skeets is set to attack this next issue.
More on this later...

Justice Society of America #2
I have come to the conclusion that Geoff Johns can do just about anything and it will make an intreiguing story. David Engalsham's art continues to astonish me, and the Alex Ross Starman cover is phenominal. The story picks up exactly where the last one left off. Mr. America's dead having reached the JSA's headquarters. Wildcat finds out he has a son. And Stargirl takes Maxine Hunkle to get her a costume (next issue's cover spotlights it). And who i assume is the new Commander Steel (who is missing a leg and balding) is at a familly reunion that gets attacked by a bunch of super powered Neo-Nazi's, and what looks to be Captain Nazi in a new costume. Enter the return of Carter Hall, aka Hawkman. He is there to take out the attackers, which will be next issue. The final pages are spent with Starman, Mr. Terrific, and Power Girl discussing what happened earlier, when Starman reveals that he is not from here, but that when he was trying "to get back here, but [he] landed somewhere else first... and [he] was trapped! Trapped someplace that was blown to KINGDOM COME"
This fits perfectly with what the final page last issue had with the Alex Ross Kingdom Come Superman preview panel. to top this off, the final page features Starman unmasked, with a backdrop of an Alex Ross Kingdom Come painting full of villains and chaos.
I can not heap enough praise on this title. The creators want this to become a cornerstone of the DCU, and it looks like it may well be that. The characters are all well rounded, Stargirl is always written well (in tribute to Johns's sister Courtney), and all of the new characters (Maxine, Starman, the new Dr. Midnight) are all awesome. I still think one of the characters easiest to like is Maxine Hunkle, who really does come off as a very realistic young woman. Plus she's drawn cute as can be.
Still, this is one title that i really think people should give a chance. It's that good.
if you arnt reading it yet, hop on now. it is only going to get more intense from here on out.
