Today in Shapira's Book of Everything our topic is on posers. We see them, we breathe them, and if you have siblings maybe even have to live with them. The correct term for poser is pretending to do, act, or seem different than you really are. Let's take for instance a girl i know at my school, for her pitiful sake we'll call her jane. Jane has loved the color purple since maybe kinder, her whole room is decked purple. Jane also is like just about every little girl i know and likes ponies. Jane also happens to be very dramatic, she has a purple fluffy sparkly annoying boa that she takes EVERYWHERE! One day Jane is walking her dog, "Pony" and there is this group of "emo" chicks hanging out on the front porch of her neighbor. She happily waves her hand and says hi then froofs her boa around her neck as it slipped out of place. The girls start laughing and then think different one of them really likes Jane's boa so she goes over and snatches. to make a long story short one girl kicks Pony, the other takes the boa, and the "leader" socks Jane in the face. Jane picks up Pony, crying hysterically, blindly racing back home. Later in her room after she's cleaned herself up she looks around her room and gets mad. She tears all the purple wallpaper off exposing it's white walls, she takes a glass ornament of a pony and crashes it against the door. She strips her bed of its sheets and pretty much destroys everything she once loved. She remembers an old can of black paint she had used in 5th grade for a project, so she goes to the garage and brings the gallon of paint and a brush in to her room . She grabs the brush and starts smearing black paint all over her room. In fact to date i will admit to see her hanging out with the very "emo" girls that lit into her. She completely changed when she got to middle school. Now to date i believe she has deliberately lied to me on more than one occasion and she has changed her wardrobe too many times to count. At the moment i believe she's going for the "preppy goth" look. Posers. We dont need them, is it so hard to stick to what you love? Must you really "conform" to what's in now? Posers. Hard to live with them but they are the very thing that makes gucci, Gucci, and baby-phat, Baby-Phat. Without posers how would all these big names stay big? To all you posers out there fine, do whatever you want, but when it comes down to it you're nothing but a coward with the lowest self-esteem.
