Science today focused on earth science, and more in particular, earthquakes. Now earthquakes are massive tremors caused by the shifting of tectonic plates. As our intro to earthquakes and the works, we began with a video that told all about a certain earthquake in Japan and then compared it to one in California.
Now earthquakes may be earthquakes and earthquakes are rare. Right? Wrong.
Here I am, living in Vancouver, waiting and waiting with the rest of the populace for the dreaded Juan de Fuca Strait earthquake. An earthquake so massive that Vancouver Island will be hit by tsunamis, Georgia Strait will cease to be so shallow and the city of Richmond will be no more. You could basically look around the class and see the silence that had the rest of us in a trance. This earthquake will be worse than what we saw in that video. After all, it's estimated at a 7 on the richter scale. That is bad! That is very, very bad.
Simply watching this video and trying to connect everything with what would happen with the Juan de Fuca earthquake that was long forseen by seismologists, I have to say, I am rather afraid of what would happen. In fact, I am terrified.
And the worst part...
...it's overdue.
