And She Says
A rarely updated journal of a random face in the crowd.
My beliefs.
A thread on the end of the world got me thinking about my own beliefs regarding whatever gods there may be.

How it started was that I mentioned that I believed the earth was a living, sentient creature. That got me to thinking about other beliefs of mine that may or may not be accepted by 'the general public.'

The one that comes to mind is my belief that whatever gods and/or demons there are exist in a sort of symbiotic relationship with humanity. Namely, what I believe is that the gods existed already, and in their 'purest' form they are rather shapeless. They have their area of influence and abilities, a vague personality, but other than that they have no form, no substance to them.

The imagination of humanity gives them that, molds them into a form, and humanity's worship gives them more power. That's why gods answer prayers and such most of the time, because the more they 'prove' they exist the more worship they get, and the more worship they get the more powerful they become.

However the gods, no matter how much worship they receive have limits. These limits vary and depend on the deity in question, but even the most powerful of them have them.

Of course, the logical question, given the topic which spawned it, is "Will the death of humanity mean the end of the gods?" The answer is yes, most likely. Whether or not they will truly die after having been dependent on humanity's worship for so long is debatable, but it is certain that a great deal of the power that they have become accustomed to will vanish. They might even go back to the forms which they had before, and lose much of the definition given to them.

This also explains why many of them have a vested interest in keeping humanity alive. While there might be some not interested in one or the other for various reasons, I find it unlikely that there are many not interested in either. And for them to have either, they must have humanity or an equivalent capable of such imagination and worship.

Where did the gods come from? That I don't know, or have any workable theories on. I believe they have existed at least as long as humanity, if not longer. Aside from that, I don't know. I'm working on a few ideas, though.

And those are my beliefs, or all that I feel like sharing today. I'd wonder if anyone shared them, but knowing how diverse humanity is it's very likely.
