I've been enlightened. No, not the Buddhism enlightened, but a different kind. A few days ago, I read this article. Now, I think this is a completely retarded idea. Why promote laziness? Because, let's face it, if you can't learn to read (unless you have some sort of disability), you're just retardedly lazy. If they pass some kind of law or movement, I'm sticking with the old way. This way. Because I'm not an idiot. People would be confused, but it'd just be like spelling "colour" or "favourite". They'd get over it. This, what they want to use, is Newspeak. Yeah, if you've read Orwell's 1984 you know what I'm talking about. Screw Newspeak. Screw Doublethink.
But, now, I think I've found the problem. The reason our youth has difficulty spelling. It has come to me. While I was lurking around the ED, I found a thread on subliminal messaging. The original thread is here, but I'm going to put the parts of the thread that I want to point out in here.
DiffusionOfTime ktkat1112 Watch the enzyte commercials with "Bob" they're everywhere. You can find some object in every scene that resembles a p***s, lol. thats not really subliminal, its REALLY hard to miss those subjestions, i mean its blantly obivious. Its more of symbolism.
Now. At first thought, I said to myself, "ok, maybe it's just a typo. I mean, he spelled 'blatantly' wrong, too." I didn't really think much of it. But then later, he wrote:
DiffusionOfTime Strawberry.Sunshine like watching a movie and the characters are drinking soda, and you want a soda. but yeah. thats just the power of subjestion though. theres a difference between subliminal messages and the power of subjestion.
The "power of subjestion." Clearly, he meant "suggestion." But what's the problem here? He can't ******** pronounce "suggestion"! This kid is 17 (according to his profile), and he can't pronounce "suggestion." Yes, I realize that when we're young we pronounce things incorrectly. I thought "yogurt" was pronounced "yogret" when I was...four and five. But 17 is almost legally an adult. Come on, people. Please. And I don't mean to be cruel to this guy, but seriously. Hasn't anyone ever told him, "it's suggestion, dumbass!"
Yes, I realize the irony that it was in a thread about subliminal messaging and the typo just happened to include "BJ". But, it is highly unlikely that that is the case. (And actually, just to satisfy my curiosity, I skimmed throught his old posts, and found another time where he used "subjestion" in a completely unrelated circumstance.)
I'm serious. If we just teach out kids to pronounce things right, we'll fix the whole damn problem! Simple as that. Because, with the exception of a few words, a lot of the English language is spelled phonetically, if you know the sounds of letter combinations (there's a word for that, but I can't think of it at the moment).
Now. On to something else. I've come to realize that I am disabled. That's right. I can't count my toes on either foot, using the other foot. I have 5 people (2 left-handed and 3 right-handed, all male, coincidentally) who can do it. But I cannot. Yep. I can't. It's kind of weird. But, on the subject, I have a funny quote that is related, though you wouldn't know it unless you read the whole conversation.
Marceux: you could interview a small pond, but would that speak for the fish of the oceans? Absolute Corruption: true. but it dosen't mean that the small pond has AIDS.
Yeah, "Absolute Corruption" is my msn alias, and "Marceux" is Marco's. Don't ask who Marco is. I won't answer. The conversation then progressed to syphilis, then to tacos. The literal kind, you ***** bastards.
Another random point. I have one of those light/fan things in my room. It has three light bulbs. I don't know about anyone else, but when one of them burns out, I don't care. Why should I? I've still got two others. Then when another goes, eh, I've still got enough light not to be absorbed by my pile of dirty clothes (which once tried to devour Stephen). But when the last one burns out....now damnit, where am I going to find three light bulbs at 1:30 am?
