Yasuhiro

Name: Yasuhiro
Age: 29
Class: Monk (Flowing archetype)

Personality: Yasuhiro comes off as a very "go with the flow" type of person. Behind the casual attitude is a man with great emotional intelligence and empathy as well as control of his body.

Ki features: Ki appears as light blue luminous feathers on his arms or legs when used to increase speed or dodging ability. When used for attacking, ki appears and blue translucent talons on the fist or foot used to attack.

Bio- Born in the village of Empycchu on the island known as Godbird Isle (or Godbird's Eyrie to outsiders). Yasuhiro was raised under the tenets of the Godbird Empyrea. He began his monk training as a teenager, as many men and women on the island do. The monks took particular notice of his remarkable agility and ability to dodge and redirect incoming attacks. This ability was particularly present in the training game of the island known as "Empyrea's egg" where one person attempts to keep multiple assailants from touching a large stone shaped like an egg while keeping it in the designated "nest" area. Children were allowed to have the egg move a little, but those who used it for training would try to keep the egg from moving at all if possible. Most monks would do this by trying to keep their opponents at a distance while staying in front of the egg. Yasuhiro would keep the egg between his feet and redirect opponents into each other, throwing them off balance and disrupting coordinated attacks. The positions he was able bend his body into in order to engage attackers earned the respect of his teachers, despite his inability to perform some of the more combative maneuvers. They chose to nurture these abilities rather than try to drill the other lessons into his head.

The monks of Empyrea would occasionally perform joint exercises with the ninjas living in the mountainous region on the edge of the island. While they disagree on how much the outside world can be trusted and how to combat their enemies, they get along for the most part. During one of these exercises, when Yasuhiro was 17, was chosen to be on a team with a young woman named Motoko.

The exercise was set up as follows:
Two teams of even numbers of monks and ninjas were made, assault and defense. The defense team is further split into two task groups, defense and healing. The goal of the assault team is to capture the "injured commander" (played by a teacher or heavy bag of rocks) or "eliminate" all opposing forces (by tying up their hands or removing a marker from the back of their necks). The healing group was tasked with performing first aid on the commander (a number of varied tasks the teachers agreed on before the exercise) and escorting him to the designated area without being captured by the enemy. The defense team patrolled the area around the commander and tried to stop or delay the assault team. Once the commander was being escorted by the healing team, the defense team moved to defend their escape. The time limit for the exercise was set for 12 hours for both teams to create a plan, prepare what they need for it, and execute it.

Yasuhiro and Motoko were put on the defense team. The area they were to defend was a group of houses in Empycchu that were emptied for the duration of the exercise. Yasuhiro and the other monks' familiarity with the area allowed Motoko and other ninjas on the defense team to create smoke bomb traps and misdirecting devices in empty houses. The devices worked to a degree, allowing the defense team to eliminate many of the monks and a few ninjas on the opposing team while minimizing their own losses. The remainder of the assault team was sent to the house where they thought the commander was held, which had Yasuhiro leaning on the front wall, appearing to be asleep. The ninjas tried to sneak past the monk (despite the warnings of the remaining monks), only to accidentally bump into egg shaped rocks that triggered noisemakers. Yasuhiro smirked and pulled a tarp down from the wall, revealing Motoko and two monks. They were one person short to take the remaining assailants on one-on-one, so Yasuhiro was left to take on two ninjas by himself. Knowing he only needed to delay them as long as possible, he focused on dodging attacks. The ninjas would later claim "it was like trying to punch the wind" as the monk dipped, spun, and handsprung around their blows. By this time, the healing team had finished their tasks and had begun running toward the escape area. Needing to finish this quickly to pursue the enemy team, the ninjas attacking Yasuhiro made one last charge toward him, one attacking from his left and the other in front of him. Yasuhiro took the punch to the left and rolled over the attacker with the momentum before pushing him toward his partner. The two collided and were distracted long enough for Motoko to appear and take the markers from both their necks. The defense team had won. Motoko and Yasuhiro became good friends after that.

Three years later, Yasuhiro and Motoko would be on the team that took down a heligator. Motoko would lose her arm saving an unconscious Yasuhiro, who was trying to distract the creature from a group of monks that had been accidentally affected by a poison smoke bomb from the ninjas. When he found out she lost her arm saving him, he felt massive guilt and immediately took over command while attempting to stabilize her. As soon as the creature was dead, he carried an unconscious Motoko to Empycchu for treatment. He never blamed her for what happened, but she would feel guilt over that mistake for years. It pained him to see his friend suffer so for so long, even if she didn't speak with him.

When Kefka and Vartan washed up on the island, he spoke with Kefka while the ninjas took Vartan. Kefka explained the situation and Yasuhiro aided in recovering his equipment and treating his injuries. The two would eventually run into Vartan and Motoko again before leaving to eliminate the cultist threat. While travelling with Kefka and crew, he became a sort of unofficial preacher of Empyrea, answering questions random people asked about the Godbird.

He still speaks with Motoko frequently, as they both live on the island, but doesn't think she's completely over her guilt from the accident.

He has since helped Motoko and Kefka get together.
