Bio- Born in Port Prospect to a sailor father and a merchant mother, Vartan grew up loving the sea. His mother and father dreamed of seeing all the places the stars would guide them, and even beyond. Their dreams manifested in their child, who showed promise with dream and sleep magic. Vartan would spend lots of time sitting on the dock or beach at sunset thinking about dreams as a young child. When he was a young adult, and he had developed his magic further, he began travelling with his mother and father on trade ships between Port Prospect and Peregrin Quay. He became well acquainted with barmaids and developed a reputation as a charmer, much to the displeasure of various men in the port cities. He never went beyond flirting unless they showed genuine interest, but that was to much for many patrons. He would put the men to sleep with magic before they could get to rowdy and take his leave. In his late teens, he began experimenting with creating minor magical items he could sell in his mother's shop. Being the flamboyant showman he was, his devices were often flashy. It was during this time he developed a way for him to escape combat without wasting his magic, the toothpick of pyrotechnics. These didn't sell very well, but he found them useful.
When he was 17, a young man in glasses stopped by his mother's shop. Vartan paid the man no mind at first. The man said something about seeing the world and collecting data on monsters where "the hero's journey began." He would not see this man for another year, when he returned to Port Prospect with a slime companion. This attracted much unwanted attention to the poor fellow, including ruffians at the tavern Vartan frequented. A bar fight ensues that knocks his drink onto the barmaid he had befriended. Angry at ruffians disturbing his date, Vartan joins the man in taking them down. They begin chatting and Vartan learns the man's name is Kefka. Vartan was pretty aimless in life right at the time, so he decided to help him research monsters in the area around Port Prospect. This was the beginning of a strange friendship and a great adventure.
Once their adventures ended, Vartan lived with Kefka in Tryan Gully for two years. He liked the people of the area well enough, but wanted to be closer to the ocean and live on his own. Kefka helped him buy Dominico's manor in Arcadia and in return Vartan told the Prince of Argonia about him and convinced him to invite him to the Grand Bazaar. He lets Kefka stay at his place and use a set of potion making equipment every time the bazaar comes around. He sometimes tended bar on busy days in the local tavern to keep himself occupied when not tinkering with small magic items.
He enjoyed working with Kefka, but felt like he was being left behind by him in terms of having his life together. Five years after the first bazaar, when Kefka had become an established presence at the event, he ran into Yasuhiro for the first time since the group disbanded. Soon after he came across someone who brought repressed fears back, "Ninja Friend." The two had a tense encounter at his house, but his fears were alleviated when he found out she helped Kefka's mother out of servitude two years prior. He then found out about her crush on Kefka, and taught her how to ballroom dance. He employed Karina, a tailor he befriended over the years and buys his fancy hats from, to make her a dress as well. It was at the ball of that bazaar that he realized he hadn't contacted his parents in almost ten years.
He has since reconnected with his parents. After a conversation with his father on the ship to Port Prospect, he feels more in control of his life. He at least knows what he needs to work on.
