College is an amazing experience in so many ways discovering yourself, the world and a whole lot of new people is something you will never forget! When attending classes, bring a bottle of water with you. Make sure you are always hydrated. This is crucial, especially if you have one class after another without any time to eat. Proper hydration will help keep you on-task and focused throughout your day. Water fountains are usually available to keep your bottle full at all times.

One of the smartest things that you can do as you enter college is to map out the exact route of your schedule before the first of class. This will give you a great idea of where you need to be at what time, and also will reduce the frequency that you get lost.

Do not fall into the credit card company's tricks where they give you a credit card. These cards have high interest rates, and they aim to prey on college students who have no money. There are many instances in which college student's default on these cards because they understandably have no money to pay them back.

You will have access to many different jobs on campus, as a college student. You should look for a job on campus if you do not already have a good job. You should choose a job that will allow you to acquire some new skills and meet some interesting people.

Learn to budget. No matter where you get your money as a college student, you need to make sure your money lasts as long as you need it. Make a list of your expenses and think of how you can cut corners so that you can do what you need to do without going broke.

Do not let anyone, including yourself, pressure you into rushing your declaration or choice of major. At most universities and colleges, you are going to spend at least two years doing general education classes regardless. Use these to explore various fields and avenues of interest to winnow down to what really fascinates you.

Attend every class unless you are sick. Unlike when you were in high school, most of the time you are not required to attend all of your classes. However, if you stay home you may miss valuable information or the opportunity to meet other students and get to know your teachers.

You should sit in the front row if you are looking to get the most out of class. This allows you to keep from getting distracted, and keeps you focused on the lecture. You are more apt to answer questions because you can not see all of the eyes in the class on you.

Take short breaks when you study for exams. You don't want them to be brief, though you need to take breaks to let your mind rest. Taking long breaks can thwart the best of studying efforts. They make it harder to get back to work, and they make it hard to work up the needed momentum. Keeping breaks short is the way to go.

Avoid using your financial aid funds to go on a shopping spree at your campus bookstore. This is common, especially among first-year students. When you learn that you have financial aid credit at the bookstore, it is tempting to buy things you don't really need. Avoid this impulse and your pocketbook will thank you later.

Make sure that you choose a college that is right for you. Decide what you are interested in and find a school that has a great program. If you are the type that can easily get lost in the crowd than look for a smaller college where you can have a more personal experience.
