BOSTON (KSDK) - One thing the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox have in common is the way they pay homage to their legendary players.
Bronze statues outside Busch Stadium of Stan "the Man" Musial, Ozzie Smith, Lou Brock, and Bob Gibson are popular places for Cards fans to take photos. In Beantown the men in bronze are equally loved.
There are only three statues outside of Fenway Park. The most iconic is Ted Williams, the greatest player in Red Sox history. He played against Stan Musial in the 1946 World Series matchup between the Cardinals and Red Sox.
There's also legendary left fielder Carl Yastremski. His statue is of when he acknowledged his last at bat with the Sox.
In the sculpture called "Teammates," Sox players Ted Williams, Bobby Doer, Johnny Pesky and Dom DiMaggio were Sox teammates for seven seasons, all served in World War II, and were friends for a lifetime.
For one Red Sox fan, visiting these statues is a superstition he holds dear, no matter how the Sox end the season.
"A little bit of a tradition. Every year I come out once or twice a year, I'll take a picture of the statues and then go over and three taps on the wall for good luck. Ten if I can't get inside for the World Series. At least I can be outside supporting my team," said Red Sox fan Demitrios Galatis.
