Country Music’s Keith Urban Joins Taylor Swift On Stage In Toronto
Country Musics Keith Urban Joins Taylor Swift On Stage In Toronto

Taylor Swift reached back to her country music roots Friday night, surprising 45,000 of her Toronto fans when she welcomed country music star Keith Urban on stage to join her for two songs.

It was the first of Swift's two night sold-out performance at the Rogers Center, a stop on her 1989 World Tour, and Swift welcomed Urban with a warm introduction, Rolling Stones reports.

"Someone absolutely incredible is about to come out on the stage. This is someone who has sold 20 million records. This is someone who, more importantly, is an amazing human being. I actually opened up for his tour years ago. He's been so wonderful to me. He's one of the most talented people who's ever been born. Toronto, Keith Urban is here to see you."

Urban, electric guitar in tow and dressed in all black, then joined Swift, who also wore all black in a skin tight leather unitard, on stage.

The pair first gave a joint performance of Urban's latest hit, "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16." Swift joined Keith in a harmony on the chorus while walking up and down a long catwalk surrounded by the crowd.

Next up was Urban's classic chart topper "Somebody Like You." The country star showed off his guitar skills as Swift, this time, sang lead vocals during the chorus. Fireworks were blasted in the background as the crowd cheered.

This was not the first time Swift and Urban shared the stage. Not only did Taylor open for Keith's Escape Together World Tour in 2009, she also joined him and Tim McGraw at the CMA Musical Festival in 2013 during a performance of McGraw's No. 1 hit, "Highway Don't Care."

Keith Urban is one of many artists to grace the stage with Taylor on the 1989 World Tour. According to Billboard, Taylor has made a habit of welcoming what some have called "unexpected[/img]
In August, Taylor asked Uzo Aduba, a star from Orange is the New Black, to join her on stage at the Staples Center for a throwback performance of Swift's own song "White Horse."

Swift also welcomed singer Avril Lavigne for a performance of Lavigne's hit "Complicated." This was after internet rumors surfaced saying Lavigne wasn't Swift's "biggest fan." Taylor even posted a photo with the caption "Taylor Hearts Avril" on her instagram to squash the rumors.

According to Taste of Country, other surprising guests include one of Taylor's besties Selena Gomez, as well as Justin Timberlake, Ellen DeGeneres, The Band Perry, Sam Hunt, and Natalie Maines from the Dixie Chicks.

Music legends Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler joined Swift in Nashville. Mick Jagger for a performance of The Rolling Stones classic "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and Steven Tyler for Aerosmith's hit "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing."

One of the biggest and perhaps funniest surprises was when Taylor asked former Friends star Lisa Kudrow to join her on stage.

"She's only ever played in coffee houses before," she told the crowd. "She's never played in a big venue like this, so you gotta please make her feel welcome."

Swift then introduced Kudrow as her Friends character, Phoebe Buffay, and the two broke out in a performance of "Smelly Cat," a song made popular by Buffay on the hit television show.

Swift concluded the Canada portion of her tour Saturday night and is returning to the U.S. for a performance in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 8.
