"I wanted to be called Deathurge-overkill and I have to be Sparrow?" excerpt for Amalgam series (DC/Mavel) DarkClaw
I like to wonder about what the thinking was behind these screen names people choose for themselves. Some are nicknames I'm sure and some reflect an ideal of an avatar that the user is creating. Given the context of Gaia, which I percieve as a stable world and not some post apoctalyptic(sp) dustbin, why choose such obviously provacative monikers? Seems like every third avatar is called "demonkiller" this or "sexyvixen" that. There are gothic women and men playing vampire and pretty pink princesses skipping through the towns.
What makes me curious are all the fighters out in gaia who really don't have an establish venue to demonstrate their skills. There is discussion of a combat arena but Gaia's inception skews strongly to social conversation rather than wargaming. I can respect players who incorporate strong narrative components into thier experience and roleplay or keep a journal of thier exploits. But straight up brusiers and posers who are around to be vulgar and get into a scrap? I suppose it takes all kinds. The only unexcusable critisisms are for those who choose inappropriate names. Why would you want to call yourself something plainly rude? It more likely that these people are going to abuse and jerk others about and try to annoy the civil avatars. Troublemakers...
As an aside the strong Demon/Angel themes around here are funny. lol How many angels/demons do you need to make a angel/demon bow? Do you only need the feathers, skin and bone? are there any bits left over for a charm of some sort? eek Its a little crude but funny to think about.
