5 Things to Do in New Orleans

New Orleans is a place where soul music, soul food, and good ole American history collide. Whether you are touring the old plantations taking in our countries past time, exploring Bourbon Street and the nightlife, or even going to the Arts District and tasting the famous beignets. New Orleans has a little bit of everything to offer you.

1) Cafe Du Monde

MMM MMM MMM.. World famous Cafe Du Monde, which opened up in 1842, located in the French Market. The coffee shop is opened 24/7 and only closed for Christmas. It is a very traditional coffee shop but with a very hip vibe. The menu consists of chocolate milk, coffee, juice, and of course Beignets.

2) Bourbon Street

Bourbon Street is the soul of New Orleans and nearly the oldest neighborhood in the French Quarter. Whether you are going for Mardi gras or no special event- it is a night to remember. As of recent there has been an open container law passed and Bourbon Street is filled with the hurricane cocktail, and the resurrection cocktail.

3) Abita Brew Pub

Come to Abita Brew Pub for a real treat, New Orleans world famous Po-Boys. Po-Boys are a thick crunchy French bread layered with fried shrimp, oysters, catfish, crab, roast beef with gravy, with the condiments of your choosing, arguably the best sandwich of the south.

4) Plantation Tours

There are numerous companies in Nola that offer plantation tours. Ask the concierge at your hotel or inn for suggestions of the best one. Louisiana is known for the beautiful historical architecture in the old homes that look over the Mississippi. As you tour the homes your guide will give you stories of the past that will really make you feel like you are in the past.

5) French Quarter Shopping

Put on your walking shoes and spend the day shopping around the French Quarter. You can browse around the French Market for a flea like market theme and fresh produce. Canal Place for top-notch designer stores or any of the unique boutiques you pass along the way.
