Okay, I work at a paper, building and inserting the ads. I've only been here about two months, and apparently I'm the first COMPETENT layout artist they've ever had. Which is why it REALLY surprised me when one of the salesgirls, Dawn, announced that she was buying the paper from the current owners, the Campbells. I didn't even know it was up for sale.
So anyway, Dawn told me she was buying the paper, and she wanted me to come to work for her when she did. She told me the sale was going down that week.
Well here it is about 3-4 weeks later and I'm still here at the Campbell's. Apparently there have been all sorts of issues regarding the loans and abstracts and titles, and apparently (I'm not sure, but I think this is what happened) the building that Dawn wants to buy to house the paper, is not actually owned by the girl selling it, but by her ex-husband. So anyway, the point is nobody knows what's going on anymore, but they still insist that the deal is going down "this week". They've been saying that for four weeks though.
I really DO NOT want to work in a different building. This place is awesome! I work in a garage full of antique cars and gas pumps, and the shelves are covered with old antique packages. I know most people don't care what a Baby Ruth candybar wrapper from 1953 looks like, but I've got a degree in commercial graphic design and this stuff is fascinating to me. There's a pool table, a shuffleboard table, a bar (no alcohol, but I don't drink anyway. It's just neat that it's *there*!) satellite TV, DSL and a full kitchen! I don't want to move!
Plus, I know that the Campbell's have enough resources that, if the paper goes through a bad period, it won't be a big problem for them. Dawn I'm not so sure of. She apparently has a history of failed business ventures, mostly because of her insufferable sister's incompetence.
*sigh* I'm really just not looking forward to this move, if it does in fact happen.
**UPDATE** Okay, Dawn wants to put the computers and printers for the paper in the same building as her video rental/pizza place. (Trust me, it's not as cool as it sounds. It sucks.) Dawn owns the INVENTORY of her store. She DOES NOT own the building or the property. However, neither does the girl she's renting from. Technically, that property actually belongs to the girl's ex-husband, and the bank is refusing to go any farther until the titles are straightend out. That's what's going on now.
