Chemistry = Interesting. Today, I watched water boil.. then 10 seconds later, I stuck my hand in the water. My hand was not scalded.. the water was at room temperature. How could this be?!?! It's called decrease in pressure, oh yah baby! My teacher filled a beaker with 100 mL of water, then placed that beaker in a container for an air vacum (aka, pressure sucker). She put a heavy lid over the beaker (glass so we could see) then turned on the pump. The pressure decreased, and the water started to boil. The she returned the Standard Atmospheric Pressure to the container, and the water slowly started to stop boiling. I was called up, and placed my hand in the water hesitantly, only to find it didn't hurt, let alone leave a mark on my hand. Amazing, it boiled without heat. There ya go, a little Chemistry Lesson for today.. -Kay
