Good Nutrition: Essential Tips And Tricks
You can start to live a healthier lifestyle by getting an education in nutrition. Become aware of healthy food choices, and know which ones are detrimental to your goals of overall fitness and good health. These basic tips will help you get started.

If you are trying to eat healthy, begin slowly. Change can't be forced overnight. You don't want to put yourself into shock transitioning into a nutritious lifestyle. Gradually adding in healthy foods over the course of a few weeks will work just as well in the end.

Pregnant women must focus on nutrition. Protein requirements are high for pregnant women, but due to lack of appetite, the needs often are not met. Have a morning smoothie to make sure that your protein needs are being met. You could even consider adding pasteurized egg whites for added protein. Eggs are great for pregnant women since their whites only have 15 calories, three grams of protein and no fat. Always use pasteurized eggs in the smoothie to avoid any problems.

Be wary of foods that brag about being fat-free or having no trans fat. Even though these foods do not have as much fat in them, this missing fat is often replaced with tons of sugar and processed additives. Be sure to check the nutritional information very carefully when looking at these items.

Nuts can be a very nutritious choice if the selection is right. A few handfuls of fresh nuts are a healthy and tasty way to add fiber and other nutrients to your diet.

While it may sound awkward, adding a little seaweed to a meal is very healthy. Seaweed, including dulse, nori and kombu, contain many vitamins and minerals. Sea-based cultures have had these in their diets for millennia.

Steer clear of snack foods containing lots of saturated fat. These foods include potato chips and fries which are packed with vegetable oil. This can cause more fat to be added to the food, yielding a detriment to health. You can boost your body's levels of fat by eating too many saturated fats in your diet. Products can claim to have no cholesterol -- but still raise your cholesterol levels in the blood.

Broccoli is a food that is great for you. Broccoli has a number of vitamins including A, C and vitamin K. It also has many minerals and is a good source of fiber. Steaming is easily the ideal way you prepare it without destroying or losing the nutrition. You just don't want to overcook it.

Use sweet potatoes instead of potatoes to get that starchy, comforting flavor without all the carbohydrates. You can mash them or use them to make fries. They can be served with butter or a little sugar. Sweet potatoes also have anti-inflammatory properties, unlike regular potatoes.
