Despite the significant differences in the mitochondrial energy state, the total cellular ATP content is the same in the two cell lines (data not shown), implying that glycolytic phosphorylation has a higher share in ATP production in SC-5 than in IMO cells. Indeed, the much higher rate of lactate formation by SC-5 PF-562271 incubated with 5 mM glucose in comparison to that found for control myoblasts (2866 ± 117 vs. 861 ± 428 nmole/mg protein/30 min, p anaerobic ATP formation.
