Animal model and treatment. Arthritis was induced in Swiss albino rats [24]. The experimental procedure was carried out according to the institutional rules and regulations. Healthy 8- to 10-week-old female rats weighing around 120 g were housed in a cage at 21 °C in 12 h light/dark cycle. There were three groups containing six animal each in duplicates in which, group 1 and 2 serves as negative and positive control, respectively, and group 3 as test. Group 2 and 3 were sensitized twice during a 6-week
SRT1720 with 10 mg/ml of ovalbumin emulsified in CFA and administered s.c. At the end of 6 weeks, animals received an intra-articular injection of 10 mg/ml of ovalbumin in CFA in order to induce arthritis. Arthritis was achieved in 6–7 days thereafter and is
neurotoxin considered as day ‘0’. The treatment commenced after the onset of arthritis. Four doses of BP-1 (100 mg/kg dissolved in saline) were given i.p. to test group of animals on every alternate day after onset of arthritis and maintained until day 20. Simultaneously negative and positive controls were injected with 100 μl saline.
