Hola Amigos, it’s time for La Liga
With the English Premier League having begun last weekend and the Bundesliga starting tonight, all eyes are now also set on the La Liga (Spanish Premier League), which begins tomorrow, with the first fixture being between Malaga and Athletico Bilbao.

The La Liga is also a highly regarded league with its classy game plans and many legends and current superstars, including Ronaldinhio, Thiery Henry, Beckham, Messi and Ronaldo, all have graced the spanish league with their skills. Apart from that according to UEFA’s league coefficient La Liga is the strongest league in Europe over the 5 years. This is quite true as Spanish teams have won the most Uefa champions league and Uefa Europa trophies and in recent times players playing in the La Liga have been receiving the most Ballon D’ Ors award, which is the most prestigious award given the to the player of the year from all over the world.

Mostly Real Madrid and Barcelona have dominated the league with the former winning its 32 times and the latter winning it 22 times.  But in recent times, specifically the last two decades we have also seen other teams such as Athletico Madrid, Sevilla and Valencia, slowly climbing the league table and eventually winning the La liga title. Matches between Spanish giants Real Madrid and F.C Barcelona are known as El Classico and are the most watched club football match, which goes to show how much fan following the Spanish league has.

The current La Liga title holders are Athletico Madrid, a team whose La Lgia win shocked the soccer world because in 10 years no other team had won the league apart from Real Madrid and F.C Barcelona. So for a team, which was lower than both these teams in terms of finances, budget and experience, to win this was a big shock. So as a result both Real Madrid and F.C Barcelona both have spent big in this transfer window in order to make sure that an upset like this never happens again.

So going into the season, the current title holders are regarded as the under dogs and no one is rooting for them to win it again. But then again even last year it seemed impossible that they would be able to pull this off but hey they did it. So we never know maybe this year the same thing happens. But the thing to keep in mind is that this season is different as some players, including Athletico Madrid’s top 2 players, have left the club and though they have brought in €95 million worth of  players, 8 to be exact, we still don’t know if these new signings will be able to compensate for the gap left by the players. But whatever happens, we wish good luck to Athletico Madrid, as sometimes there’s nothing better than rooting for the underdogs.
