Jimi Petulla Entrepreneur and Filmmaker Out to Change the World
Jim Petulla is the founding father of Radio Connection and the architect of the school's curriculum-backed approach to mentored-apprenticeship. Instead of going to a traditional, lecture-oriented school, apprentices accepted in to the program have the benefit of learning what must be done to be DJs, radio personalities, sportscasters, radio news broadcaster, announcers and more, within the exciting world of broadcasting. Apprentices in the program are properly trained with experts in the radio broadcasting one-on-one as opposed to being placed in room full of other students. This streamlined, immersive and structured program has totally changed the way people manage to get thier start in radio broadcasting. What exactly is its story?

In the early eighties, Jim Petulla was offered a teaching job at a then-popular trade school for radio broadcasting. Petulla, as a seasoned radio broadcaster, wanted to pay back some of the good which had come his way through the job-offer opportunities in the market. He took the teaching position and found the curriculum the school had put in place was outdated (by decades) and the lessons just weren't highly relevant to common broadcasting routines. In order to go to school, students have to consider skyrocketing tuition fees and very high books.

Determined by a desire to help as many driven, dedicated individuals as possible, Jim Petulla started focusing on a different educational model, one which could more readily provide relevant, hands-on training in radio broadcasting in a more direct, cost-efficient manner. Jim Petulla, for several days, formulated an excellent, hands-on program for learners to prepare and develop skills and knowledge they and connect to the real world of radio broadcasting at the same time. JimPetualla, architect of the curriculum-backed, mentor apprentice strategy to radio broadcasting education, took his plan to the trade school's board. Petulla dismissed the sit-down instruction which is no longer used in the radio broadcasting setting and created a program which puts learners inside real stations and be properly trained by seasoned professional in the field hands-on and one-on-one. The board's response? They just made fun of his idea.

Well, ultimately the laugh was on them. That traditional school was now not-operational and Petulla went on concentrating his energy on making his program work. Radio Connection was founded in 1984 and since then the mentored-apprenticeship means for training in the world of radio broadcasting has become the #1 option for thousands of individuals all over the United States. Training individuals from within the industry, where they're making relationships with the pros while gaining a real-world understanding of how broadcasting works has allowed the program to stay completely related and up to date while keeping the cost relatively low.

Now how does Jim Petulla (Petulla's LinkedIn profile), architect of Radio Connection's curriculum-backed method of mentored-apprenticeship feel about the school's success? Jim said, "Honestly, I feel wonderful about this. It's my honest desire to help people. That is what it's all about." Instead of resting on his laurels, Petulla is still working hard, bringing the mentored-apprenticeship method of those whom he feels can most benefit.
