A Minstrel's Memoir and the Ramblings of a Child I am a musician, a writer and and an avid fan of anime. One of my hobbies is translating songs from my fave anime series, and I figured I oughta share what I've come up with. I'm known as Shizukesa around these parts. Nice to meet you.

So! This marks my third submission. Hello to all one of you reading this! xd
Alright, this entry will be a translation of the theme song of the first season of Kimi ni Todoke. It was performed by Tanizawa Tomofumi and bears the same title as the show. (I don't really wanna type the title again; it's already cluttered enough up here thanks to my ranting. Sorry!)

An important note: My translations are crafted in such a way that they can be used to sing along with the original without sounding awkward -- that means I try to keep the syllables per line the same while still maintaining a rhyme scheme. Because of this, though, I do have to take some liberties with the lyrics. All the same, I did my best to keep it close to the original meaning.
(TL;DR: My stuff is, uh, sing-along-able.)

I'm sorry to disappoint, but there will be no quasi-relevant banter here. And I know how much you all love to absorb all of the majesties of absolutely no substance at all, ever! Uh, I'm not calling you idiots, don't be so angry... sweatdrop But if you really want to read stuff like that instead of enjoying my fantastic work* below, I'll have you know that I used the word "all" thrice in the previous sentence. That's all.

*naturally, the words aren't mine, so you can thank Mr. Tanizawa Tomofumi for whatever brilliance you come across here cool

君に届け (Kimi ni Todoke)
[Reaching You]

Performed by: Tanizawa Tomofumi

Kimi ni Todoke (Seiyuu Version)

(I've learned my lesson. I cannot embed. Ever.
Anyway, the above is a YouTube link to the same song, except performed by the main voice cast of the anime. It's pretty sweet and has got a lot of character -- pun intended -- and while the original certainly isn't of lesser quality, I just thought that this version needs more love. Enjoy!)

In the warmth of gentle sunlight, the chime is a little bit delayed
And the breeze that brushes my cheeks turns into my own breath along the way

Now the tears that wandered aimlessly, with tomorrow, which we named, will be
Swaying as though they're all future-tinted lines

I feel them flowing through, all of my feelings pure,
When I remember all the days of our mirthful splendor
I hope that we can one day look back and smile once again
It wasn't hard for you to glide past those cut-off days
Straight to me to give me firsts in so many ways
I long to reach your heart
With my own

You were gazing at the sunset, laughing as we stepped out of the school
Unbreathed whispers, secret feelings -- the both of us thought that it might just have been much too soon

Now the you that shines inside of me and the me who lives in you will be
Dancing together as future-colored lines

I still remember how the town smells after the rain
Like I recall the dream-like secret I kept hidden away
I often felt like I'd cry, but I wound up laughing instead
There's no need for you now to shy away from me
I only want to fly into your arms blissfully
I long to reach your heart
With my own

Yes, right before you -- you, beloved more than anyone else --
is someone who treasures you so much, won't hurt you: there's none besides myself
Even if the sweet words that you let go somehow become those of bleak goodbyes instead
I don't think anything would change

I feel them flowing through, all of my feelings pure,
When I remember all the days of our mirthful splendor
I hope that we can one day look back and smile once again
I'll grow up just a bit and hope that I soon outrun
The me who looks at you as one whom I can become
I long to reach your heart
So right now, I think I'll start
From my own.

P.S.: The bridge. Oh, sacred tabernacle, that bridge. Well, this line in particular:
Even if the sweet words that you let go somehow become those of bleak goodbyes instead
The original was just going by so fast with too many syllables being spewed out for even my oh-so-astute (why am I so full of it today?) hearing to catch, so I kinda sorta maybe failed with the number of syllables. But hey, it's still somewhat sing-along-able, as is my trademark, so there's that! We can't all be tongue-twistingly fluent in other languages instantly. crying
