The others were dead. Rhavaniel had been traveling with four others but they had been attacked by orcs and now the only one left of the group was her. She had done her best to protect and keep them from harm but she had failed. Not only that but she had almost failed in protecting her own life. She was injured now and by herself in an area she was unfamiliar with. To say she was on edge would be an understatement.
Her head snapped around at the sound of foot steps. More orcs. They were headed somewhere and they refused to move their path so that it wouldn't lay directly in Rhavaniel's. Why should they? They were many and she was but one. She frowned and took a step back until her back was pressed up against a tree. She could run and most likely outrun the orcs or she could stand and fight. Neither one of these options meant she would even live to see another sunrise. She chose to fight.
Reaching back, she pulled out her bow and settled it into place, pulling the string back to prepare for the orcs that she knew were coming. They would meet an unpleasant suprise if she had anything to say about it and they wouldn't live to tell anyone about it either.
Rhavaniel lowered down so that her red hair didn't stand out as much and waited. She didn't have to be like this for long for it was only a matter of minutes before they were crashing through the plants.
The first one let out a shout as the orc next to him fell over dead. If she was lucky she would be able to get in one more kill before they found where she was hiding. If she wasn't then she had already been spotted. If that was the case then she needed to move right now to get farther away from them. However, if they hadn't spotted her yet she would be blowing her cover and wasting the opportunity for another easy kill. She had only seconds to decide.
The choice was made for her when it became very obvious that she had been spotted because they started running in her direction. Her eyes widened for a second before she let loose another arrow that had another orc falling to the forest floor, dead. She then turned and ran as fast as she could toward them, pulling out a sword as she did. She didn't actually think she could defeat these twenty or so orcs. She wasn't stupid. She just hoped to take down as much as she could before she was killed.
