4E201 Second Seed 9, Middas

So after the bandit incident, we didn't have much trouble making it to Whiterun, and they took me to the Companion mead hall Jorrvaskr, which, incidentally, is where I've been ever since. They brought me before Kodlak, the Harbinger of the Companions and explained my plight. He seemed willing to offer me protection, but wanted me to complete the normal initiation process for the Companions in order to keep face and appease any other members who would hate me for not fighting my way in.

I was told to follow a Nord man named Vilkas into the training grounds outside the mead hall. Reluctantly I followed, and the man took out a sword and shield and told me to attack him, to gauge my fighting skills. So, I took my little silver dagger in hand, and went for it. I think I shocked both myself and Vilkas, as when I charged him, I knocked him to the ground! For a moment, I thought maybe old Giraud Gemane had taught me more than I realized, which might have been true, but never had I had the strength to knock over a grown man before, let alone a battle-hardened Companion. I helped him up, and he remarked that I had some raw talent before sending me on the small task of getting his sword sharpened for him.

I was directed to the Skyforge, where I met Eorlund Gray-Mane, the blacksmith. As he worked on the sword, I asked him a bit about the Companions, and he re-told for me their great history, how they were founded by the legendary Ysgramor and their role in founding Whiterun. It was all completely fascinating to me, being the story-hungry bard I am, and I was almost sad to leave the storytelling behind to return the sword to Vilkas. Gray-Mane also gave me Aela's shield to return to her, after it had taken a beating in the bandit assault. So, I returned the weapons to them, and was almost ready to become a Companion. There was just one task left to complete, and an unexpected encounter with an old acquaintance...

Well, lunch is over, I should get back to my work. At least I'm almost done catching up.
