Character and Writing Archive
My early entries concerned my real life back when I was a teen. Now a days, I find my journal to be a wonderful place to store some of my shorter writings and of course, character profiles. Feel free to look through them, and comment when you see fit

Description - Cyrus is a typical ginger. He has bright, fiery red hair that falls over his face, pale, easily burned skin, and freckles all over. His hair naturally falls forward, so Cyrus typically wears his hat and goggles to hold it out of his eyes. Said eyes are golden, and somewhat unnerving to people who aren't used to the color. Cyrus' ears are pointed and stick out from his head. His ears and eyes are inherited from his mother, who was an elf. Since he is half-elf, he ages a touch slower than a human, and looks like a teenager. He's all arms and legs, lanky and not yet filled out. Cyrus has toned arms, but that's about it. He does a lot of heavy lifting in his tinkering, but at the end of the day he's only tinkering, not running around slaying dragons.

Clothing - Cyrus' favorite piece of clothing is his hat. It's a complicated thing, with buckles, goggles, and little wings Cyrus attached himself. It's cream and light brown, with the colors alternating in wedges. The straps, goggles, and visor are a darker brown, and the wings are a lighter creamy white (so Cyrus says; they're dingy with age). The hat is well-worn with age and use; Cyrus is almost never seen without it.

Cyrus' signature outfit is a dark red vest with flame details, brown pants tucked into his boots, and a red sash-like belt with plenty of pouches attached.

Here are some TekTeks for those who'd like a visual.

Personality - Cyrus is an optimistic, happy-go-lucky kind of guy. He's highly energetic, bouncing from one project to another as inspiration hits. He's intelligent, but there are huge gaps in his knowledge and he lacks discipline when learning new things. Whatever he's motivated about gets his full attention, but once he's bored, his attention wanders until he finds something else that motivates him. He gets frustrated when people underestimate him, and yearns to prove himself and get some respect. He's prone to swearing when he's mad, but not much else.

Character History - Cyrus was born to a former slave elf named Amelia. She had been purchased to be a companion and plaything to a noble's son, and when the consequences of some of that play showed up, she was kicked out with only the rags on her back to survive in. Slum life was hard on the pair, and when Cyrus was three, Amelia died of pneumonia.

Cyrus was forced to look out for himself from then on. Sheer luck got him through the hardest times; he found a street gang that took little kids, even half elves like him. They taught him how to steal, and set him on stealing little things until he was big enough and coordinated enough to help with the bigger heists. Before that happened, the gang was arrested and taken away; all except for Cyrus, aged five.

He survived the next year by the skin of his teeth, then got taken in by a nice mage man who taught him a few easy spells and fed him good food. The mage was always very physical in his affection for Cyrus, a bit too physical. Before anything more than too long hugs and inappropriate touches could happen, the mage got arrested on charges of *****. Cyrus' presence damned him where it hadn't before, and Cyrus was sent to an orphanage.

The orphanage burned down after Cyrus practiced with his fire too much, and he was back on the streets again. When he was eight, a drought hit, making food all the more scarce. That winter was the hardest one of Cyrus' young life, and he would have died if not for his hero: a knight of the Adventurer's Guild. The knight saw Cyrus laying half-dead in the snow and took him in, nursing him to health. Cyrus, the moment he was healthy, tried to steal from the knight and run. He got caught easily, and instead of getting beaten or killed, he got a lecture on the value of hard work. Normally, Cyrus wouldn't have listened, but the fact that the knight was so earnest and had saved his life twice now made him think twice.

That day, Cyrus decided he was going to stop stealing and work on joining the Adventurer's Guild.

In spring, the knight let Cyrus go, giving him a finely made hat, some money, and the same knife Cyrus had once tried to steal. Cyrus stayed out of the slums after that, finding work in the market and getting himself a place to sleep in a stable loft. He found his calling in a tinker's employ, and became the man's apprentice, working with him for years to master the art of fixing whatever he saw and secretly inventing whatever came to mind.

When Cyrus was fifteen, he applied to the Guild as a sneak-thief, citing his experience in the streets to his credit. When time came to show off his supposed skills, Cyrus failed and was rejected; he was sneaky, but there were far better thieves in the rank. He went back to his job and tried to think of something that would make him stand out.

At seventeen, Cyrus applied again as a tinker and jack of all trades. He was summarily rejected, since the Adventurer's Guild had plenty of funds for repairs and access to far more skilled repairmen then one seventeen year old boy.

At twenty, Cyrus applied for the final time. This time, he posed himself as an inventor, wearing a strange pack on his shoulders and a triumphant look in his eye. The recruiters let him get on with it, sure he would fail once again. Cyrus activated his pack and started to hover off the ground, explaining his invention as he circled around the room. Enchanted ice panels to insulate the body from excess heat, magically superheated steam for propulsion, and ideas for the future that made Cyrus' flying pack a viable machine. He listed off other inventions as well, such as an automated time teller he liked to call a 'clock', after the spellword to tell the time, and enchanted pistols that would fire different kinds of shot based on a dial.

Cyrus was accepted into the Guild, and remains there to this day. Not everything is sunshine, however; without a suitable sponsor, Cyrus faces the chance of being kicked out again. Many adventurers don't see him as a real member despite his drive and intelligence, and refuse to sponsor him. If he doesn't get one soon, Cyrus will be back out on the streets again, and this time there will be no chance of coming back.

Abilities

Magic - Cyrus has magical ability, but since he was never trained, it's restricted to what spells he can learn by 'feel'. His unique way of learning these spells does make him very good at them once he masters the feel of them, and gives him a talent with enchanting equipment, but he'll never learn high power spells since he wastes so much energy learning even the simplest cantrips.

Equipment

Cyrus has a few knives on him, as well as pistols he's made and modified himself.

Companions - None.

Notes - Cyrus is a fairly recent character. He's currently looking for a 'verse to occupy, hopefully one that will accept his background.
