I must admit the power of rumors can actually be quite beneficial. It would seem the story Spectra Vondergeist had circulated about Cleo de Nile and myself has calmed, at least for now, in favor of a new whirlwind.
Apparently three ghouls at school have been receiving gifts from a mysterious benefactor. This has ignited quite the speculation as to what boo each of these ghouls has attracted.
I must admit that even I took an interest, although I left it mostly unspoken. As the ghouls showed off these tokens of affection I did notice that whoever the boos are, they do have wonderful taste in tokens of affection. They are lucky ghouls indeed.
I envy them in a way. I myself have never had a boo court me. Mother can be quite the intimidating figure and tradition demands she first meet any boo who takes an interest in me in order to gain her approval. It rarely goes well past that point. Of course this is why I am still amazed that little green boy, whom I now know to be the son of a politician and named Glen da West, had no fear of her.
I take comfort in the few moments at lunch when Glen and his friends insist I join them. I do not speak much but a harpy ghoul does enough of that for both of us, which is fine by me. The other kids in the creepateria always seem to watch me like they are waiting for me to speak more often and seem disappointed when I do not.
I have not exactly been forthcoming in tales of my past or my homeland save for the bits Glen da West and his friends have gotten out of me. To their credit, they appear genuinely interested. I'm sure what I have told them has made its way around the school, if the rumor mill is as potent as I believe it to be.
This day did end on a good note;
Tori Underbridge informed me that nobody really believed anything that Spectra ever wrote, so she kindly advised me that nobody believed the story about Cleo de Nile's family and my own.
