Valkyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume
I got Valkyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume a month or so ago. Just recently got into it the other day. At first, the battle system was a bit iffy. Once getting it down, it's not too bad. Fairly easy to do actually.

Anyway... story is you play as this guy. Your father died in a battle. The battle maiden (aka valkyrie) left a feather as his body, as she does with anyone who dies in battle. Your character blames her for his father's death though. You take the feather and begin training to be a fighter, against your mother's wishes.

Eventually you come in contact with the goddess Hel. She wants you to use the plume on people, to give them incredible power. The catch? They die after the battle. So as you play, if you get into a battle that requires the plume to be used, pick carefully. Whomever you pick will die. For good.

This game is alright. I admit that I have not beat the game. Their are only 6 chapters, so it is fairly short. However, has multiple endings, with only 3 true final endings. I got about 6 hours into the game, on chapter 3, and found myself at a "Game Over" ending. That means I need to start over.

So while the game isn't too hard, it is frustrating. Depending on who you pick to use the plume on, which means they die, depends on the game progress. It also depends on what places you visit/battle on what happens next.

Would I recommend this game? It depends. Story isn't amazing. Graphics are pretty good. Use of the plume is interesting. It's not that expensive (I think around $10-20), so may be worth picking up, if it sounds interesting to you.

I'm unsure when I'll aim for another ending. That "Game Over" ending I got was disappointing. May play something else, before picking this one up again.

Edit:
Decided to give this game another shot. Figured since I bought another RPG and have some RPGs I've not yet beat, I should finish at least one of them. Even if it's only one of a few possible endings.

Second time around...

I'm actually liking this game the more I play it. Their is no grinding of levels. All major battles are a challenge. Their is one that I refused using the plume on (not using it early on grants something later). Took me 4 or 5 attempts, before getting the battle done. Although it can be annoying to do that, I find it enjoyable.

So if you like RPGs with...
• Turn-based battles
• 3D-ish battlefields
• Multiple endings based on choices (whom to use the plume on and what place to go to)
• Fairly short story. I estimate around 15-20 hours per play through, which means 45-60+ hours if you go for all 3 endings

Then this might be for you.
