Jessica was seventeen. She had been enslaved by her master for seven and for those seven years she had somehow managed to stay out of her masters way. Her master was rumored to have her way with her slaves and bend them to her will if they rebelled. That was the reason Jessica did her work as silently and as fast as she could. Once she had finished with her duties she would go to the basement and wait till she was aloud to go to bed.
That's where she was at the moment. Jessica was curled up in the basement looking out the small window at the top of the wall. "Freedom lies just beyond that window." She sighed and traced figures in the dust on the floor. Something moved near the basement door and she flattened against the wall under the stairs. The movement upstairs ceased and she relaxed. Her worry was how long could she keep hiding before she was found
