More than Just Second Thought

Memorized by the sound of wood crackling, the smell of smoke and the color of yellow, orange and blue filled my body. Looking into it more you would be a hostage of its flames forever. The fire danced and swayed to the music that played nothing but silence. A whisper of uncertainty, questioned me. “What you going to do now?” I blinked twice and looked into the fire again. The voice whispered to me again. “Are you still thinking about joining the army?” I looked around the fire once more. The families were talking amongst themselves. I slowly turned my attention back to the fire and it asked “What are you going to do now?” the voice was from a little boy and it was filled with pain and disappointment. He continued to speak to me. “Have you ever thought of what your family would think or say? Tell me, tell me if you going to join the army? I want to know.” He threw questions at me like flying bombs. The flames grew bigger as the boy was getting angry and my fear grew. His voice became sharp. “Do you know how many people have lost their lives in war?” I thought to myself with insecurity. “I made my decision.” The little boy replied, “Is that so? If I can’t persuade you maybe he can.” My eyes started to blur and I cried out in fear. “Wait! Who’s He?!” Afraid and already knowing who it was we both travel to my past when I told my friend Luke about going to the war. “What the hell is the matter with you?!”He shouted in my face. “Just because I am in the war doesn’t mean you be stupid and join too!” He said with tiredness to his voice. “I am not doing that because of you Luke!” I shouted back. “What then?” He said with thick disgust. I became silent and I looked down at my feet. Luke sighed and lifted my face up. “Darling, I am only stopping you because you’re the only person I have in my life. If you ever joined the army I won’t feel confident that I will still have you.” I looked up and I saw that the vision was fading into another one. It was Travis and I, instant messaging each other and I told him about my decision. “You’re not going.” He came out with a straight forward answer. “But I am not scared.” I typed snapping at the keyboard with frustration. “I don’t give a ********.” He types back. I could see him snapping at the keyboard with anger. “Keria you can die!!! You act like it is not even a big deal, do you know how many people will miss you.” Before I could even reply he started typing all the people I made friends with worldwide into the computer. It was a list from A-y business and that’s when it hit me. What would they do if they realized one day I was dead? My mind went blank and the vision was fading. The last words I saw Travis type was “just think about it, ok.” As I focused back to reality I noticed that the fire was fading too. The boy satisfied by my wordless look pointed out. “You have a lot of people that loves you here. I suggest you think about what you really want to do.” Hearing that I quickly replied. “Who are you?” the boy replied “I am one of the many boys who have lost his brother and father.” His voice started to fade. I wanted to try to know more about him. “When will I see you again?” I shouted. He replied “When you see me again you will know.” His voice disappeared the fire was gone and he left me with nothing but lost thoughts.
