Chapter One: Desecration of Validity

The ear-shattering clashes of swords sounded through the abandoned debris of a large old church. Droplets of crimson blood splattered on the ground as another great clash of metal occurred. Blocking another brutal swing from Alister, Lucifer let out a low, sharp growl. He was trying desperately to keep the ever-amplifying demonic power inside of him. He didn’t want it escaping from him. Not again. He knew, that if even a slip of his demonic persona managed to overwhelm and control him, the results would not end well. At all. And, Alister knew this, yet, continued to further bulldoze Lucifer to his absolute limits. Alister wanted to see him suffer about being the very thing that he was. That they both were. A demon.
“C’mon now Lucifer, you know that you want to release that hidden strength!” He taunted, colliding again with the brunt of Lucifer’s weapon. The red-headed demon shot him a small, dangerous smirk.
“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?”
Alister smirked back, leaping away from Lucifer with the addition of a back flip. In mid-flip, he pulled his out his shotgun, an extra and handy little weapon of his, and fired three clear shots at Lucifer. He was able to block them with his sword, without much effort. It seemed that Alister was starting to go a tad slower, a sign that he was starting to lost energy. The two had been fighting since dawn. Whenever Lucifer saw Alister, all of the terrible memories…the nightmares that he had to live through, flushed right through his thought process. And something else clicked. The whole reason he was even fighting his own brother. But before Lucifer could even fathom on the subject, multiple dark blue rays of powerful electricity were aimed at himself, by yours truly. He performed a series of dodge rolls to get away from the beams, but only succeeded in barely dodging the last one. It wasn’t too much of a fatal hit, but it did leave Lucifer with a paralyzed arm. Luckily though, his injury wasn’t in vain, for the blood on the floor was Alister’s. He’d manage to get his sword to come in contact with his leg, and sliced a nice little cut right before he was pushed back, a little earlier in the battle.
“Brother! I expected more from you. This is a disappointment.” Alister sneered at him.
“Shut your mouth. I’m not your brother.” He glared something dangerous, holding up his sword, and connecting energies with it. It glowed an ugly purple, and once he felt he’d stored enough energy, he bashed the sword unto the ground, creating a huge and powerful Shadow Outbreak, one of the more dynamic attacks Lucifer learned while training with his master. And this was something, that Alister was never around to learn. Alister’s eyebrow raised, as stated earlier, he didn’t know of this power. Well, he knew of it, but he didn’t know Lucifer had learned it. And with his slowly descending energy, it’d be hard to counter it, much less escape it from that matter. It only came faster, Shadow Outbreak being an attack of someone’s will, and Lucifer willed it to get higher and faster. He knew he wouldn’t be able to completely kill Alister, but it would at least damage him enough so that he’d stay away from the target he was after. And, it’d give Lucifer some time to find it before Alister did. Alister was contemplating in his mind what to do, seeing as one of the most deadly attacks ever learnt by a demon, was aiming straight for him. There wasn’t much he could do, but at least try to dodge it, though, he knew he wouldn’t get out with a little scratch. So, just when The blast got close enough to him, he sprinted away, using Lurch, which was a like sprinting, except it was way faster. Having nothing as it’s target any longer, the blast hit a wall of the church, only succeeding in making it crumble down into more debris, dust and smoke covering the area. Coughing a bit, Lucifer leaped up onto one of the other, unshattered pillars and into the cleaner air above.
“Tch..” He sneered, his head lolling down with a slight glare. He always takes off right when his going gets tough.. He thought, as he decided to exit the church ruins, them only bringing back memories of how it turned into a crumbled wasteland in the first place. It had been two months ago, and it came to Lucifer like a flashback…
Lucifer entered the church hesitantly. Why did Sebastian recommend him to go here? It was completely empty, except for one person at the stand. It was a male, with long, dirty blonde hair, which was tied in a ponytail in the back. He wore long purple and black robes and he was a little pale.
“Uh…hello?” Lucifer asked, reluctantly moving closer to the back of the church. The man turned around, and Lucifer could see deep, blue eyes, full of compassion. He let his sense of security down just a bit, however, he still had no idea who this man was or why his best friend suggested to visit him.
The man let off a small smile, and came from behind the stand.
“Hello, my name is Duke. I suppose that you are the one Sebastian had spoke of. Welcome.”
Lucifer nodded, smiling a little also. “Lucifer. Nice to meet you.”
Duke held out his hand as a sign of amity. It was a short moment of thought, but Lucifer eventually took his hand, and they shook. After letting go, Duke’s smile grew a little. As Lucifer studied him, it was evident that this man was indeed friendly. Maybe even more than Sebastian had elucidated. “So, uh…why did Sebastian suggest for me to come to here?”
Duke’s expression started to get a little serious. “Well…I’ve been informed by Sebastian that you’re a fellow demon. A friend of his. He’s told me a lot about you, Lucifer.”
Lucifer raised his eyebrow a little. “Is that right?”
Duke nodded. “Indeed. He’s told me a little about the demonic realm as well.”
Lucifer was quiet then. “…He seems to have a good sense of trust in you.”
“Yes,” Duke said, “And…it surprised me. Though, I don’t question him.. For I am one of the only priests in this land, whom haven’t tried to exorcize a demon the minute I see it. At least, not until I’ve been provoked too. And Sebastian gave me no reason to do so. In fact, when he told me of you, I started to contemplate about the behavior of different demons. Most others, would believe that all demons are grotesque, terrible, flesh-eating menaces. No offence. However, that wasn’t my visualization. Not even from the beginning. My father was a priest. And, he was one of the accumulated clerics whom thought all demons were all appalling creatures…and he’d tell me stories of them. They were repulsive stories, horrendous tales that gave me shudders and shivers. But…something in the very hindmost corners of my of my mind told me that these stories were fable. Or, at least, fallacious data. After a few weeks, on the day on my 18th birthday, my father started to teach me his ways of the holy. This church actually belongs to him. I was too inherit it when I was 21. Though, the more my father tried to train me, the more interested I became in the whimsical individuals known as demons. I studied them, read about them, researched them, I tried to learn everything and anything I could about them. It was an unnerving time, when my father found out about my handiwork. He scolded me day, after day, declaring that ‘I’ve sinned’ and ‘I was off to Hell.’ Of course, I didn’t believe him, for I’d also realized the defectiveness of the bible’s many versions. It was confusing, knowing which ones to listen too or which version to believe. So, I just stopped. Believing, no. Reading, yes. And my mother, who didn’t understand me at all, just became distant towards me. Crazy, was more like it. I’d hear her crying in the night…or screaming at my father, howling things such as ‘You’ve turned our son into a monster-loving abomination!’…it was such a dejected time for my family… And, I knew it was all my fault. So, I decided upon leaving. I took refuge with a friend in his apartment not too far from the church. I was happy, living with her…until, I’d found out the news..” Duke stopped there, looking down forlornly. Lucifer was in a slight daze, thinking about all that Duke said. When he’d stopped, Lucifer looked at him with a sad expression also. “…If you don’t mind…I’d like to hear what happened..” But the red-headed demon could already imagine what happened. Duke was quiet for a few more moments, before he nodded and continued on with his story.
“…I’d been informed by my friend that my father had died after performing an extremely difficult exorcism. I…I was devastated.” He said softly.
Lucifer suddenly felt unjust as he heard that. “And…let, me guess…you’re views on demons changed after that..?”
Duke shook his head. “No. Not at all. And that’s what bewildered me. My father had been killed by the very thing that I’d been so fascinated by. But…then, a realization overtook me. A selfish realization at that.”
“…What was it?” Lucifer asked, getting more interested in this man the more he was told.
Duke looked at him with sobriety. “I was being held back no longer. I was weak during the majority of my life, whether I defied my father’s traditions or not. And, I didn’t know what I wanted to undertake with my life. Until, my realization came… And so, I took over my father’s duties of the church. I was dedicated too. Every Sunday, I’d perform the services, carry out the bible study for the children, and arrange the affairs for finance and entertainment. It was a wonderful experience. I met some charismatic people, some of them even shared their own beliefs with me. Yes, it was definitely extraordinary to run a church. And such a large, and gorgeous one as this, correct?”
Regardless of the earlier tragic mention, Lucifer’s smile came back little by little. He nodded to his question. “It is indeed. Who painted the angels and cherubs? They almost look real..”
“Oh, my sister and I did those. Thank you for the compliment.”
Lucifer nodded, staring at the illuminated ceiling. The angels swooned across the authentic, swirling clouds, and the cherubs, cute and delighted, danced across the golden sky. Being a demon, Lucifer should’ve been sickened by this. But, he wasn’t. In fact, something lit up inside of him. The feeling…the desire, to see all of this for himself. When he would…no. He’s forgotten what he was. He was a savage… A demon. A spawn from the great, scorching leviathan himself. And for this, he’d be damned from birth. He’d never get to see the radiant magnificence of the golden rod horizon known as Heaven. Lucifer looked down somberly, thinking of how nice it could be. To be one of God’s children. And, while thinking of how it must be to be pure…he started to think of his own parents. His father, the greatest devil in all of their realm, well…you should know who that is. And his mother…whom was a fallen angel. Along with Alister…his older brother. It was ironic, the two siblings. Lucifer looked more like their father, though, he acted more like their mother. And Alister, whom looked more like their mother, but was as evil and maniacal as their father. Their mother, regardless of her sin, and reducing into a fallen angel, she was kind to her boys. When their father wasn’t around, she’d tell them stories of when she was an angel and how wonderful it was to be in the Heavens. However, one incident wrecked her chances of staying, and, she fell. And fell, and fell, until she was in the lesser dimension of demons and devils. It was then she found their father, and they soon become one, producing Lucifer and Alister. It was nice, for awhile, to live with his family. Lucifer had always wanted to be as strong as their father, as did Alister. Unfortunately, Alister wanted it more and when the time came that their father explained the greatest act he was ever going to admit, Alister wanted power ever more than he had. On the other hand, Lucifer was horrified. He’d heard tales and such from the other demons about the humans. Mostly about how scrumptious their souls are when the time comes for them to die and the ultimate decision is made. Lucifer was never the one to talk about those kinds of things about the humans. He always wondered about them. What they were like. How they acted in different situations, and if their worlds were as different as everyone would say. And that’s when he realized how alike he and Duke really were.
“I…see, Duke. Now I know why Sebastian told me to come and see you. You and I are very much similar.”
Duke raised his eyebrow, looking at Lucifer curiously. “Is that right?”
Lucifer nodded, as the new consciousness in mind started to take seed. “In my childhood, other demon adults, whom we call devils, and demon children would take about you humans. Mostly depicting how delicious your souls were.” He said airily, “I hope you don’t take offense to that.”
“None at all.” He smiled a little.
Lucifer nodded and continued on with what he was saying. “But, I never thought those things about humans. Not even now. When I was a child, growing into teenager hood, I was fascinated by the humans, much as you were with us demons. I couldn’t do much research on them though, considering my father had both my brother and I on a tight leash with training.”
Duke’s pale face lit up as he discovered this. “And, so…now, we’ve found one another. The two that rebelled against their contracted beliefs. I have so many questions.”
Lucifer allowed a smile to grace his lips. “As do I.”

“…Duke..” Lucifer whispered morbidly, refusing to remember the rest. He refused to remember when Alister had found out about the amiable friendship with Duke. ..He refused to remember the day when Alister slaughtered his first, real friend…all for an atrocious laugh. He gritted his teeth against each other in spite, and he cursed the day he was ever born a demon. As Lucifer took one last look at the destroyed church, and only real place he’d ever wanted to call ‘home’, He leaped off of the pillar and onto the grassy earth below and outside the debris. The winds blew he long, blood-red hair, along with his just as long black coat and he began walking back to his apartment. Abruptly, he suddenly remembered who’d be waiting for him when he got there. Who’d be waiting to chew his a** out, that is. Oh god…Miranda..
