Organ Harvesting and Donations

Organ harvesting is the taking of organs from one body and giving them to a person in need of organs, which turns into an organ donation. Before the organ harvesting, transplant team have to be given permission. After an organ harvest, the organs that were harvested would be donated to people in need of specific organs. Organ donations can be given from a brain dead patient, or a person that is agreeing to give away one of their organs.

Before the harvesting of the organs begins, the transplant coordinator will have to get either the donor’s or the donor’s family consent. Paper work will have to be done, and will have to be done, and the donor will have to have their blood type taken and they will have to be screened. This information will be sent to an coordination agency, such as the United Network for Organ Sharing in the United States, etc, so that the organization can assign the organs be donated to the people in need. The transplant team will also have to make sure all of the equipment is cleaned, and they have to make sure to have the containers the organs will be carried in, when they are being transported to the patient in need.

The harvesting team will have to cut open the donors body, and find all of the healthy organs in the body. Then the team will have to flush the organs with ice-cold preservation solution. The solution will remove all the blood, and the preservation process begins. The organs will be put into igloo containers, with extra preservation solution, so help preserve the organs for the travel it will have to go through in order for the patient to receive it.

The organ donation begins with the organ being transferred to the hospital where the patient is being kept. The organ is accompanied by a doctor from the hospital where the donor had either died. Before the organ is donated, a transplant coordination agency must first verify the blood types and body size to check how many patients have the same blood types and body size as the donor, in order for the organ to be truly compatible with the patient. The agency also checks to see who needs the organ the most, who is available to receive the organ as soon as possible, and who is healthy enough to get the surgery. The medical staff has to make sure they keep the organs usable, so they have to work quickly. Even if the transplant team is working quickly, they have to make sure all of the chords are connected in all of the right places, and everything has to be patched up. So where ever the transplant team used the medical knife to make an incision, they also had to make sure they patched the spot up. The patient’s stay in the hospital after the transplant depends on what organ they had just received.

Once again, organ harvesting is the taking of organs from one body and giving them to a person in need of organs, which turns into organ donations. Before a harvest or donation is started, the transplant coordinator must make sure that either the donor or the donor’s family agrees to the organs being donated. A transplant agency must find a patient that needs the organ the most, and is willing to receive it at that time, and the patient absolutely MUST have the same blood type and body size. The organ can’t be too big or too small for the patient, or else they may need a newer organ or they may die. The blood type has to be the same as well or else the patient will die.
