Salathielly's Commonplace Log
Otomen and other things
I'm looking forward to next week when I don't have to go into work so early. At least, I'm hoping so...

I watched Kuroshitsuji II episode 7 last night, and it was...special. In many ways, this series is very over-the-top, especially where the demon butlers are concerned. Which is part of its appeal, but it's also kind of...I don't know how to describe it. But not quite as satisfying as it could be. Poor triplet demons who never speak. And I'm not even going to describe the horrors that get perpetuated on that poor maid. I was about to gag. Someone on that staff must have a fetish for abusing maids. And I've always been a little ambivalent about Ciel's character, but I don't like him as much this season. Not quite sure why yet. Though I am excited that Grell is going to be in the next episode along with some backstory on Alois.

I read volumes 1-3 of Otomen yesterday and 4-6 today (all I could get from the library). I'm still not sure that I like shoujo (shojo? Silly romanizing...) manga as well as shounen. I guess I like more epic/magical stuff than high school romances. The series is cute, though, and I like the main character as well as the other "otomen" (girly guys). It's a shame that they have yet to introduce a character who is proud of being a girly man yet. All of them seem to feel they have to hide their feelings. I guess the flower guy is a little more open about it, but he's so quiet that it's hard to tell. Presumably there's more drama when the character has to hide something, I suppose, but still.
