July 16, 2010: Kittens in the Gutter!
Below is one of the most interesting and insane things any of you will ever hear.

So me and Nannette were hanging out three days ago. After going on a walk, we came over to my house and talked for a while. Then, Nannette's sister Bree and her buddy came by and banged on the door. When we opened the door, they yelled, "We found some kittens in a hole!"

Me, Nannette, and Steph follow Nannette's sister Bree and friend to a gutter, where the sewer lid has been removed and a little 7-year-old named Justin is standing. The little kid tells us the kittens left, and somebody should go down and get them. Me and Steph keep telling Nannette's sister she really shouldn't go down there, so the little boy calls for his older brother, who turns out to be the kid who is always banging on our door wanting us to hang out with him, Zach.
(background info: we don't like Zach. He's racist and homophobic.)

We stare down into the sewer for a while, and eventually two fuzzy kittens approach from within a sewer pipe. These kittens were ADORIBLE! They looked about two or three months old, and they kept staring up at us with their big eyes.
Nannette named one Iglesias and Steph named the other Gus.

Nannette's sister Bree really wanted to go down and get them, but Steph and I kept telling her not to. I worried the kittens or the mother might have rabies, and I'm sure all of you reading know just how much rabies scares me.
(background info: I've been terrified of Rabies since fourth grade.)

So Nannette's sister went to get a neighbor man, and as she was gone Zach's brother Justin discovered that the mother was sitting underneath the car we'd been standing next to the whole time. Zach's younger brother then proceeded to try to get the mother out from under the car. As he worked, his little friend Joel came by.

Nannette's sister Bree finally returned, and the neighbor man Mr. Damon brought them a flash light so that Bree and her friend could both go into the sewer after the kittens.
We all looked down after a bit, and the friend tells us Bree has crawled DOWN THE SEWER PIPE after the kittens. She was down there for a good ten minutes, when Mr. Damon starts telling them they need to come out.

We look over, and Zach's brother is HOLDING THE MOTHER IN HIS ARMS. She jumps out and runs into these bushes, and at first Justin and Joel attempted to chase it, but Steph and I told him to leave her alone, so they came back.

Bree finally came back out of the sewer, and she was COVERED in mud. (at least, I hope it was mud) Her friend came out too, and she wasn't that badly muddied up.

Steph, Nannette, and I head back over to my house, where Steph tells the story to my mom. Nannette and I watched a Very Potter Musical while Steph and my Mom went to CiCi's Pizza. I walked Nannette home after it got dark, then came back and watched Princess and the Frog.

After about an hour, Steph and Mom come home and Steph tells me about how she saw the father of the kittens hiding under our car before it darted away.

And that's what my Tuesday was like. But guess what, there's more!

Yesterday, Nannette came over and said we should come over to her house because Bree actually pulled one of the kittens out of the sewers and brought it home. 'Course, I wasn't quite washed up yet, so first Steph and I got showers, and then we headed over.

We got there, and Zach was sitting on the couch watching Big Mama's House and Nannette's dad was on the computer animating. (he's a comic book animator) After a while they revealed the kitten- Gus. Only, it turned out Gus was a girl, so they'd re-named her Kiara, after Simba's daughter.
Basically, Bree had found Kiara and grabbed her by the tail to keep her from being run over by a car, as she has a love of playing under cars.

We sat around for a while, each of us taking turns holding Kiara and saying hello to Nannette's cats Aslan and Cook. And then Zach, Bree, Nannette, Steph and I went off to see if we could retrieve the other kitten from the sewers. We went and ran into Justin, Joel and this girl Naya, who were already there at the sewer. Zach and Bree went down and fed the mom, who was the tiniest thing I'd ever seen, and then after only a few minutes got out the other kitten, Iglesias.
Because he'd been in the sewer, he smelled like poo. It was kinda gross.

Justin kept holding Iglesias by the neck like a Queen(that's what a mother cat is called), and even though we continuously tried to tell him not to hold it like that because it could kill the kitten, he wouldn't listen. He was convinced he should have kept this cat, but Zach told him they couldn't, as they already have three cats at home.
Justin then said that they should put it back, but I told them that would be a horrible idea, because after kittens have been taken from the Queen, she rejects them. (we have a book about caring for cats, I know this kind of stuff) He disagreed, and it was obvious he thought he knew everything there was to know.

Anyway, Iglesias got taken home to Nannette's house. We ate watermelons, and then there was a knock on the door. We open it, and there is Justin, Joel, and Kaya, atanding there holding the mother cat. They said we really should bring it inside, but instead we just put out food and water for it. 'Course, the mother ran away instead of eating it.
Anyway, the plan is the kittens are going to be washed up, taken to the vet, and then given away. Though Nannette's dad really likes Kiara, because he thinks she has monkey eyes, so they might keep her, who knows.

Zach came to our house later, and we went on a short walk as he explained to us that Justin is still trying to get the mother out of the sewer, but his mom is going to ground him if he goes down there again. Also, she apparently told him not to go over to Nannette's house anymore, because she knows nobody likes him being there.

Anyway, we were heading back over there today, and on the way we ran into Justin. He asked, “Where you guys going?” We said, “To Nannette's.” He said, “Oh. I'm going back in the sewers.”
We told him Zach told us his mom doesn't want him down there anymore, to which he replied, “Zach lies.” We said he shouldn't go down there still because he could get sick. He said, “Yeah, I know. I got sick down there already.” We told him to be careful of E. Coli, and then we walked away.

We got to the house, and we saw both Kiara and Iglesias, who were having an adventure underneath Nannette's bed. It was nice to see they were in good health and looked happy.
Anyway, we talked to Nannette's dad, who told us that earlier today Justin came by(he made an ACK noise) and would not leave. Apparently, he doesn't like Justin being there either.

So yeah, that was my week. It was filled with friends and kittens and sewers and annoying neighborhood kids. In a word, it was AWESOME.

crazy stuff just seems to happen to you alot, doesn't it?

It reminds me of when some kids in my neighborhood crawled around in the storm drains. Just to do it. xP

I hope all the cats are okay, though.
