The Life and Times of Jex Thoth, The Great Horned Sage
RP stuff.
Character name: Jex Thoth, "The Great Horned Sage"

User Image

Age: 25

Occupation: To wander, observe, appreciate, and oftentimes test his skills against the world.

Skills:

Passive Abilities:

The Improvisational Acrobat. Jex has a strong natural sense of balance, kinetics, and his own physical motion and inertia, though he has no understanding of these terms.

Freestyle Form and Function. There is no predictability or structure to Jex Thoth's unconventional fighting- he is all flow, reaction, and instinct, without thought or distraction. It works for him.

Polearm Mastery. Before Jex ever weilded Nagayina, he fished rivers and streams and defending himself against great beasts with a hunting spear for many years. While never trained, Jex is very skilled in the use of lightweight polearms and throwing spears.

Fortitude of Mind and Spirit. Jex's focus is hard to shake, and he is able to ender deep mental states very quickly. Jex Thoth is immune to most mind control, mood affecting auras, intimidation, and coercion in general.

Fresh off the Bone. There are only a handful of times in his life that Jex Thoth has devoured a cooked meal. His body greatly favors it's nutrients when consumed raw and fresh.

Magic:

Active Abilities:

Nebuchadnezzar's Dream. Jex Thoth's mastery of his mind and body allow him to enter a special state of sleep on command. In Nebu's Dream state, Jex Thoth's concious spirit leaves his body while maintaining a link between his concious self and his physical body. His intentions manifest physical in physical actions and movements, while he oversees the entire battlefeild. While in Nebu's Dream, Jex cannot speak, and direct, powerful hits may jolt him into an awakened state. Depending on the suddennes of return from the Dream state, Jex may be momentarily dazed or experience a period of grogginess.

Isak's Grounding. Jex Thoth enters a special stance that maximizes the potential of his physical "center point". From this stance, "Isak's Grounding" is performed when Jex projects himself deep into the earth, mentally rooting himself to the spot and creating a link between him and the planet. He becomes nigh immovable and almost completely immune to blunt impact, but cannot move without breaking the Grounding. Immovability and blunt impact resistance diminishes greatly while in Nebu's Dream.

The Flight of Jex Thoth. A technique that Jex himself developed from Isak's Grounding. Originally, his intentions had been to improve the effect of Isak's Grounding while in Dream state; instead, Jex found a way to forcefully propel his body from a stationary position. By creating a great tension in the connection between his body and the planet while performing Isak's Grounding and then breaking that connection, Jex Thoth is blasted in his willed direction (most of the time). This ability can be disorienting and, without utmost attention, unpredictable. Jex is constantly wondering how he can lessen the intensity of the propulsion, but can't seem to get the technique to work without near shot-out-of-a-canon force. Recommended for use in Nebu's Dream state due to disorientation. Max horizontal distance acheived: 25 yards. Max vertical distance acheived: 20 yards.

Weaknesses: Jex Thoth's one true weakness is his naivety to the ways of Man and God. His good natured, carefree disposition will keep him blissfully ignorant to all the world's hidden knives until they are pressed against his throat.

Personal Treasure: Nagayina is a polearm that once belonged to the love of Jex Thoth's life- the Ungaian princess, Freya. It was by Jex Thoth's hand and under the blade of Nagaina that Freya was killed and freed from the spell of an evil druidic alchemist. Inspired to this day by Freya's lust for adventure and her bravery, Thoth's every step is fueled by the weapon he carries and he is never lost while Nagayina is within his grasp. Deep within his heart, Thoth is simply accompanying his beloved Freya on her next great adventure.

Quirks: Jex Thoth generally seems to have his head almost permanently in the clouds, most of the time appearing to be staring beyond the veil of what others see- perhaps into another time; another place; or into his own mind. He keeps things simple, always, and can bring a loose lightheartedness to almost any situation.

Weapons:

Nagayina:

Nagayina (nah-gah-ee-nah), his naginata. It stands four heads taller than he (the blade counting for two of those heads), and is built from exotic wood, metal, and insect appendage. The nature of the spell weaved into the exoskeletal blade gives it the qualities of life and things like dents, bends, chips, or cracks in the blade "heal" over time. Prevents dulling. Maintenance free.

When Nagayina's blade pierces flesh, there is a 100% chance that the weilder gains a Haste buff (1.5x speed) for two seconds. This effect works only for Jex Thoth, and casts Slow (.5 Speed) on a wielder that cuts Jex with Nagayina.

Description: Jex is a thin and muscular enigma with a great mass of brown, wavy hair atop his head that stands up like a brushfire that's almost completely taken over his head. His face seems to emerge from it.
Two proud, four-pronged antlers grow from either side of his forehead, just inside his hairline. He wears a headress across his forehead, from the sides of the headress hang the feathers and claws of slain beasts.
His skin is a deep, dark, angered aqua color; his eyes are narrow and feirce and cast a faint yellow glow. Running up from his right cheek, between his eyes, to underneath his headress is a scar, jagged and permanent, but not too deep and not too ghastly.
He wears a ghost-thin, crimson scarf around his neck or waist (as a sash) that looks like it could be thousands of years old. He wears a deep dark blue, almost black juban, and tattered black pants that fit tightly, especially compared to the loose fitting juban. His arms, shins and feet are wrapped. Jex stands at a medium height, and is built for agility and swift, powerful movements; he is very sinewy.

Short History: I haven't touched on the fine details yet, but the basic plot is certain. 25 years ago, a desperate Ungaian queen sought the aid of a twisted druid so that she could have a child of her own. The evil druid, Kuremkarmeruk, mixed black druidic magic, the queens own flesh, and a rare, enchanted seed to summon forth from Gaia itself a baby- Jex Thoth.

Horrified by the ritual and shamed to have help bring forth such a demon, the queen would not accept the child and left him to the evil druid. She fled the surface and returned to Ungaia, never to bear her own child. Kuremkarmeruk was fine with this because he was pleased by his own work. Not wanting to disrupt the course his summoning spell had taken, he left the child to it's own devices, to live or die as Gaia saw fit.

Jex Thoth, one way or another, survived infancy in the wilds and eventually befriended a young Ungaian princess by the name of Freya. Freya, as all other Ungaians at one point or another found out, knew of the Queen's Shame, Jex Thoth, the "Evil Druid's Demon", but Freya was a different Ungaian. She delighted in the unknown, the unexplored- she was Jex's first true friend and soon to be lover. The young Jex Thoth and Freya made an excellent team- Freya, the adventurer with Jex Thoth, her guide, who knew the ways of the surface wilds as well as any creature.

They grew together, journey after journey, until one day Kuremkarmeruk, who's madness and power had only increased, finally decided it was time to check in on Jex Thoth. The Evil Druid, by this time, fancied himself equal to Gaia, and to find Jex Thoth and an Ungaian princess in love gave him the perfect opportunity to test the powers of creation.

In an effort to create a brand new species of life, Kuremkarmeruk captured Freya so that he could use her flesh to create another like Jex- a female. He hypothesized that he would need to harvest most, if not all, of the Ungaian princess, for the female would need to come out perfect. Additionally, since the Evil Druid's power had greatly increased over those 20 years, he would be able to maintain total control over his new creation, unlike Jex.

In the end, Jex Thoth was able to slay the Evil Druid, but not before the ritual was too far gone. In her last moment, Freya begged for death by her own weapon, Nagayina. Jex Thoth took Freyas life, and before setting out to meet the rest of the world, gave her one last kiss, soaked in tears and blood.

Jex Thoth has seen and done many things in the last five years since the death of Freya, some big, some small, but the biggest are yet to come.
