Highschool's ridiculous, just to inform those of you younger than 14.
Just remember one thing- You're your own person and taking things that people you don't even know say that are offensive won't get you anywhere. If you don't know what I mean, watch the movie "Mean Girls" a few times. I'm in no way saying that highschool's that crazy, because it's not, but there are things that happen in that movie that are 'loosely' based around fact...
Like that one scene where Regina stops that girls in the hallway, compliments her bracelet, and then when she walks away turns to Cady and says it's the most hideous thing she's ever seen.
I KNOW that happens all of the time.
Unless my friends are the greatest on the face of the planet, I know that at least one of them despised the fact that my hair is now a non-shaved mohawk. My circle of friends is diverse and I highly doubt that my preppy, Abercrombie-clad friend Sarah was feeling it. At all.
I have to say though- I don't get freaked about it anymore. I used to walk on pins and needles worrying about what other people thought about me...
My theory: If I'm not trying to impress them, then why do I let my day be interrupted because the entire table of black girls at the lunch table next to us keeps staring at me like I'm a godzilla-sized skunk?
I don't. I actually laugh.
Do people I've never even spoken to actually think that they're hurting me or something by staring me up and down like I'm some disgusting, foreign object? Who knows... Maybe because I'm white I'm not permitted to wear a Michael Jackson shirt and some red plaid pants to match. Maybe the semi-mohawk just put the icing on the cake.
Oh, and trust me, I'm not racist. I'll admit to being stereotypical, but that's it. It's obviously more than just black girls that are insane. Look at us white girls and our catfights- Nothing like sawing a girl in half with our highly manicured nails.
Well actually, I guess I don't apply to that either. I've never been in a catfight or had a manicure. The first one's just stupid and the second makes it really obnoxious to do anything with your hands.
Yes, this is unedited if you can't tell. And it's getting slightly off-topic, but it's more fun to write this way. (: I'll probably write this way a lot unless it's a blog entry or article. Those are a little more thought out.
I think I'll stop with this now though, because I could keep going, but I'd end up going in circles. I do that a lot too. (;
Anyone feel the same as I do? I mean, not letting yourself be effected?
