This Painful Feeling pt. 1
Do any of us really know what love is? I mean, when we all go back and think about it everyone always told you as you were young that love is the best thing that will ever happen to you. Your heart will beat and you will find yourself in a dream like state when you are anywhere near that person. You’ll forget about all time and space when you meet them or see them. You know what they didn’t tell you about though? How painful love really is. It is more than just happy thoughts and feelings. It can be sad and hurt beyond any pain you have felt in your life; worse than breaking a leg, or being stabbed in the stomach. Unfortunately I had to learn this the hard way.

What made it worse was, it was my very first love. I mean as a kid you have many crushes that made your heart flutter and your stomach churn like you were going to return the cafeteria’s lunch back to the plate it came from, but this was not one of those crushes. It was more complicated then small jumps in your heart or a gasp of breath. It was my love… It’s ironic because at first it stemmed from a dislike. No it wasn’t just a dislike, I completely hated him. He was one of those guys you didn’t need to know to know who they were. At least that is what I thought. It was my high school years. I had just moved with my father and stepmom into a new neighborhood and I had decided to explore my new surroundings as normal as they were. I was walking down the street when I first saw him. He was running up his driveway, his tall and athletic body moved swiftly between his buddies as he dribbled a ball. And the short curly black hair which bounced only slightly as he jumped to land the basket which he shot but it only hit the edge of the hoop bouncing off and rolling my way. At that moment I hadn’t noticed I was staring off in their direction during that whole time so when the ball came to a stop at my feet I was slow to react. “Who are you?” His voice was stern as he walked up and grabbed the ball at my feet.

“E-Evelyn… Evelyn Yunez.” I managed to utter from my mouth and I only stared at the ground. I could hear him chuckle to himself as I stood their shy.

“Oh… I have seen you at school. Did you just move into this neighborhood?” I glanced up slightly, the sun which happened to be in his direction blinded me for a moment but when I saw his face I glanced down again. I gave a slight nod in reply and I could hear that same cocky chuckle again. What the hell was so funny? Was he enjoying my embarrassment that much? Finally I gathered my courage and looked up fully in his direction. His face had a peculiar smirk to it. It was a smile that had matched his cocky chuckle and the statement which would soon escape his twisted lips.

“So why are you just standing there watching us? Are you weird or something? Like a stalker?” I could feel the deep pits of my stomach churn and twist and my face grew hot. I knew I was red because of embarrassment but that didn’t keep me from losing my cool and making it worse.

“A stalker…? Excuse me for taking a walk in a new neighborhood. You are so confident with yourself huh? Thinking someone would want to stalk you. Well get a clue, first get some actual skills because if you try to impress a girl with your skills at basketball you are s**t out of luck.” I could hear him give another one of those cocky laughs my stomach twisted into a tighter knot as I heard it. I had won the verbal fight but the mental battle had just begun. I twisted my body and headed back towards my house, stomping slightly in a fit of rage. In those very moments I knew that I hated him, but I had no clue of what lay ahead.
