“You never shut up do you?” Kage hunched down and grabbed the girl by the wrist. He pulled her to her feet and led her closer to his throne before he released his grip and reclaimed his seat.
“I want nothing from you.”
“Then why?” Shiroi rubbed her wrist as she stood in front of him.
“Bait.” Kage grinned, “You would have to be close to one of the Circle to have been there now. So tell me, who lays claim to you?”
“I’m not property!” Shiroi refrained from shouting at him, but was offended and made no attempts to hide the fact. “And I’m not bait.”
“Of course you are,” Kage laughed and the sound of it filled the room. “You are a woman, it’s your place to be claimed and protected. There is no shame in it.”
“I doubt Maefyl thinks so little of me,” Shiroi answered his question without realizing. “And I doubt Gabriel will let him fall for your trap.”
“So you answer to the vampire, then?” Kage had thought as much, but the confirmation of it was delicious. Nexus must have been crushed, even if she did not realize the insult of it. “Then you’ll be relieved to know it’s not him I’m after.”
