Diary of Vernan Welheim
Vernan Welheim's Past... (Read at your own discretion)
Vernan sat trembling in fear, as her tears continually streamed down his face. The Beast, something from his darkest nightmares, was huddled over his mother. Her body hung limp and lifeless in its claws, its fangs burrowing into her flesh, rendering it effortlessly.

His older sister held him tightly in her arms, though she herself was trembling more than Vernan. They were hiding within the hidden closet beneath the staircase; a keyhole was the only portal through which Vernan saw these horrific images. His sister tried valiantly to hold back her tears, but was overcome; her tears fell like raindrops upon Vernan's head. He heard her cry meekly, but was un-phased; Vernan continued to look out towards the mangled form that used to be their Mother.

Suddenly the beast stopped and looked directly into Vernan's peering eye. Slowly it crept through the living room, dragging what used to be their mother, blood staining the carpet as her body still hung limp. It stopped just before the door, and took a long drag of the air, seemingly trying to smell them out. A slightly curious sound was all that it made just seconds before the door was torn from its hinges, and his sister swept along with it. She toppled along the ground, and her blood splattered across the floor, and as she tried to raise herself the beast turned to her.

Dropping the lifeless form, it leapt onto its new prey; ravenously tearing it's fangs into her. As tears fell from her eyes, her cries could not escape her lips, but the look of terror was stitched onto her face. Her blood poured over her face, and from the gashes along her body, pooling before her further staining the floor. Her eyes lay open, and soon grew lifeless, much like their mother's before her.

Vernan now sat alone engrossed by the sadness that bottled up inside of him. He let out a cry, desperate and mournful. The beast, like before, came ever closer to the origin of the sound. But this time when it stood before Vernan, all it did was stare down upon him. It leaned in and smelled the air, and continued to look down on him. It looked confused, as if nothing was there, but Vernan cries just echoed through the empty house. After a few moments Vernan opened his eyes, and as the tears continued to fall he saw the beast up-close. And just as it vanished into the darkness from which it came, Vernan saw a glimpse of a smile strewn across t6he beasts twisted visage.

Vernan awoke screaming, and tears staining his face. The darkness of this empty home he found no solace. Vernan, now 19 years old, it has been 15 years since the horrible events that took place all those nights ago. He had only one foster parent since then, but sadly He too had died, but not from a demon-beast, it was lung-cancer that took his life.

Vernan had an opportunity to join the police academy today, he looked towards the clock and found it to be 7 o'clock, "s**t only two hours 'til the interview!"

Vernan jumped out of bed and as he walked downstairs he looked into the kitchen and as he walked passed he grabbed his coat and keys, locking the door as he left. He jumped onto his bike, turning the keys he revved the engine, letting out a thunderous roar. Darting through the menial traffic Vernan came to an abrupt stop in front of the Police station; He looked to his watch and only had moments to spare. Zipping through the halls he slammed into a Janitor's cart flailing face first into the marble floor he skidded, until he came to an abrupt stop. As the door opened, a sigh resounded, and as Vernan looked up he saw the Chief, "How's it going Sir? Am I on time?" Said Vernan with his usual happy go lucky attitude.

Unbeknowist to the rest of those in his life, that his past had held such turmoil, he put on the same smile every day. Treating all of those he met with kindness, so as to help prevent further sadness.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Vernan lost a partner; she was the only one that he ever had, to a "mysterious" series of killings that abruptly stopped. That was when he was 25; it's been 4 years since then. He achieved the rank of Chief Detective, and has been so for a year now. He still lives in the same house that was left to him by his "Father". And he still wears his "trademark" smile every day.

Vernan also become a skilled marksman, and has since to miss a single shot to this day. His "Curse" as many have titled it, still follows him to this day, causing him to have many unexplainable accidents, and surviving all of them with only minimal damage. He's only made a few friends since the start of his career, one of them being the owner of a local dinner, Cathleen. She is a robust woman; she always cares for Vernan as if he were family. And as such he gets regular lectures from her as well; she cares for him in a stern-ish fashion.

The other friend he made was a strange man who goes by the name of "Brother", a name given to him by Vernan to help hide his identity...
