"Jinx Larson and Gabriel Lyons." Mr. Gibbons called in a clear and loud voice. Jinx Larson's fist tightened and she moved to sit next to Gabriel Lyons, who sat back with ease, taking no notice of her as she sat down next to him. She couldn't believe she was working on her English report with Gabriel Lyons. Gabriel was a guy who never took his grades seriously, was always skipping or disappearing for weeks. Her lips tightened as she began writing down points for Romeo and Juliet.

The whole room was silent, the only sound was pens scratching paper and silent whispers as partners talked about there paper.Gabriel Lyons began humming an unfamiliar tune, making Jinx more irritated each moment. Ignoring him, she wrote more vigorously into the paper, almost poking holes through it.

Gabriel hummed a little louder, loud enough for the people infront of them to look curiously at Gabriel. Gabriel took no notice of them, and kept humming until eventually they turned around. He slightly smiled, and hummer lower and softly, so only Jinx could here it.

Jinx snapped.

"Could you shut up and actually help me here?" she snapped in a whisper, irritation hitting her features.

Gabriel cut of his humming and just shrugged. Jinx growled.

"I cannot believe I am stuck with you. You'll mess up my grade."

"Whats the big deal if I mess up your grade?" he asked, his voice smooth and low. All though he was smiling.

"Because I need this to get a good grade so I can go to college." Jinx hissed. "And you aren't helping me or yourself, Gabriel. If you mess this up, you'll get taken down too and you won't be able to go to a college."

"I'm not going to college." he told her, fixing he's eyes on his pen

Jinx stopped writing and turned to Gabriel, a little interest in her eyes. "Why not?"

"Don't have the time." he simply said, eyes still on the pencil. Jinx put her pen down and stared at Gabriel for a moment. Her parents always told her that she needed to go to college or otherwise she would end up unemployed. Her parents pushed her so hard, that she knew she had to go to college no matter what.

"So where are you going after school?" Jinx asked him.

He took his eyes off his pencil and stared at her, grinning. "I don't know. The sky's the limit, right?"

They didn't talk after that, and as soon as the bell went, Gabriel shot out of there like a bullet from a gun. Jinx just shook her head and walked out to her car, to find her sister, Amelia Larson, leaning against the hood, with an annoyed expression.

"Geez, finally! What took you so long?" she sneered.

Jinx loved her sister, but sometimes she just could be bothered putting up with her. They were twins, but not identical. She was brunette, tall and beautiful, and Jinx was a redheaded, medium sized height and pale. Jinx rolled her eyes at Amelia and got into her Mercedes. Jinx didn't like her car, since it was to classy and elegant for her, but her father had insisted that she got it. Amelia was so jealous you could feel it.

The was no conversation in the ride. Jinx and her sister barley talked to each other. Amelia was blaring Lady Gaga, and Jinx rolled her eyes at her sister's choice. She hated her taste in music. When they pulled up, her parents where there. Jinx sighed, irritated and hopped out of the car. Her mother was holding a package. She handed it to Jinx without saying hello, and examined it. It said it was from BROWN.

Jinx opened it. It was an acceptance letter. She smiled slightly. "I got in."

Her mother squealed and hugged her, and her father smiled proudly. "So your going to that one then?"

Jinx shrugged. "Maybe, I still haven't gotten the letter from Sarah Lawrence."

Her mother pulled back frowning. "Jinx-"

Great, she thought, now she will go and give me a big lecture on how I shouldn't be going there when I can go to BROWN. Jinx stood there and listened to her whole speech, then with and "Okay, mom." she walked inside, Amelia following her.

"You such a wuss." she said walking into her room.

"Go away, Amelia." Jinx sighed.

"Just tell them you want to go to Sarah Lawrence! If they can't deal with that, then ******** them!"

Jinx laughed. "Where are you going?"

"I got excepted into Columbia. I'm only going because Daniel is going, so..." she trailed off.

Daniel Searcy was Amelia's boyfriend. He was Captain of the football team and she was head cheerleader, and after a game, Daniel said he loved her they had been inseparable ever since. It was two years ago. He had a sister, Alex Searcy. She wasn't a cheerleader, but she was The Social Chair, so she organized events for the school, which made her popular since she threw the best prom themes and rallies. Her boyfriend, Kris Davidson, was a quarter back, and best friends with Daniel. He was an only child and lived with his mother, his Dad died seven years ago.

And Jinx was popular because she was friends with them all. Famous by socialization.

"Hey, there a party down by the bonfire, you coming?" Amelia asked.

Jinx said yes, and let her sister get her ready. It was almost ten when they left, and Daniel ran up to Amelia and kissed her deeply. She giggled into his mouth, and Daniel smiled when they broke apart.

"Well, hello" purred Amelia.

Jinx rolled my eyes.

"Hey Jinx!" greeted Emmett, hugging her. She laughed.

"Hey Dan."

Then there was a squeal as Alex attacked Jinx. "Jinx!"

Jinx smiled. "Hey Alex." she looked up and saw Kris hovering a few feet away. "Hey Kris."

Kris smiled and nodded as Alex let go off her. The five of the sat down somewhere, and began to talk about the usual. School stuff, gossip, dating. The usual. Jinx went to o grab another drink, but she bumped into someone.

"Oh, sorry!" she apologized.

"Its fine" said a husky voice. She looked up and saw a very tall guy with short hair staring at her.

"You must be Kevin, the new student." Jinx smiled and introduced herself.

"Nice too meet you" he said smiling.

Jinx invited him over to join her friends. The four greeted him casually, Alex smiling. They began talking again, and the conversation managed to fall on Gabriel Lyons.

"Lyons?" snorted Daniel. "What a freak."

Amelia laughed.

"He's my partner in English." Jinx told them.

"Poor you, I sympathize." said Amelia.

Alex and Kris were unusually quiet.

"Who is it?" asked Kevin.

Amelia sat up, smiling. "He a total loser. After his Mom died, him and his Dad moved here. That was like, ten years ago. He is such a creep. He keeps to himself, and never talks to anyone! Have you guys ever heard him talk?"

Everyone shook there heads.

"I have" Jinx said. She told them the conversation she had with him in English.

"What does he mean, "The sky is the limit?" asked Alex.

Jinx shrugged.

Kris as thoughtful, slight crease between his forehead.

"See?" Amelia said to Jacob. "A total loser."

Jinx didn't pay attention to the rest of the conversation.
