Back to the topic of this whole journal... pretty much instead of going to become the most powerful, most famous, legendary person within the game, I instead choose the more subtle route. I wander from town to town within a game, listening to the clans to hear where they plan on holding their attacks, listen to what they find from certain creatures, and will often avoid much interaction with said groups. after gathering such information I usually will go seek out what special treasures they have found so intriguing and will hunt for these treasures on my own instinct, or, if my funds are truly running too low I will examine the clan and possibly follow them to this source. I will then watch and wait, seeing what kind of power is awaiting at the treasure in question, and what tasks are needed to gather such coveted items. I will then make my move based on these results. if the clan is purely power hungry they will often ignore the loot and go after the monster that guards it. I then use such a time to sneak past the beast which usually is far too powerful for me to even come within even an ill placed sneeze from said beast. i then will rummage through the treasure for whatever I feel is worth grabbing, often some new armor, power-ups, cash, and whatever I find worth selling. ( the loot in question being taken often is often that ignored by prior clans, or the clan in question's ignored drops. ) after filling my bag with everything I can bring my self to carry I will then take the second to most thrilling part of this task. If I happen to not have some form of teleportation I will often have to sneak back past the monster, which by now is usually slain, and the clan is normally not bothered by my presence, for there is usually enough loot to go around, and some or they usually just don't care about money for some unknown reason. but back to the task of escaping the dungeon or other such place in question. it usually requires a keen eye to detail, and quick reflexes to evade the guardian creatures and make way to the exit. after escaping ( successfully or failed ) I then make my way to the nearest town to sell my excess goods, and continue onto my next adventure. I usually do not do this so much for the value of the item, but for the thrill of accomplishing what many cannot. often many clans see my potential, and my ability to evade even the most dreadful of beasts no matter what my class, or level they often ask if I would be willing to join their clan. this has happened so often in fact that it has gotten me to usually become quite popular among many clans. I have currently become a member of one clan on the game I have been playing as of late, though I have made a rival clan a very close allay which is leading me to want to switch titles to the other. ( their name is quite odd which is the only thing that is preventing me so far, yes I know that's quite shallow. but the name "CheezBurgerz" is far more bizarre than xXJudgementXx) I have been stuck with many very unique names for clans which follow me where ever I go ( literally their posted above your head with your user name, which can be embarrassing at times. ) so I am currently not looking forward to the name change, as well as their clan color being pink ( or yellow green, cant remember to be honest, I just remember it being something I would naturally not prefer to choose. ), where as Judgment has dark blue, which matches my character far more.
But yes, I prefer to adventure, to get lost in a new land, with new people, and new creatures. after not playing such games for so long I have actually grown to miss such adventuring. And yes in most any online MMO there are many ways to treasure hunt, this can, and will often involve a fight with a beast to take away it's coveted item in question. if you are able to track, and judge targets well you may become adept to scavenge treasure hunting. if you are an adventurer kind of player you may become adept to finding the lost treasures. these are often not guarded by any powerful beast, but lost within the confines of the unknown. these tend to be the most rewarding to the mentally patient. often those who are the rouge of the bunch will find that scavenge treasure hunting will be best suited for you, for it involves tracking a group of people, evading deadly creatures, and taking the coveted items before you have caught said clan's attention, though many clans that do not grab the treasure first often do not care so much about the treasure, but for the hunt. ( and no this isnt just a thought to make the hunter feel better about taking the item, but something I have learned from asking said clans if they mind if I take the loot. )
The unwritten rules of Treasure hunters:
- Do not spread word of another treasure hunters finds.
- Do not steal from another hunter's kill if you are teamed up ( keep to killing your own target, not his. he will normally respect such and do the same. )
- If a clan is killing a target, do not swoop in and take said target's loot until the clan has moved on, it's not yours until they have shown signs of not wanting said loot. ( wait about five seconds or more before moving in on the target at least, preferably wait until they move to another target creature. )
- If a hunter has beaten you to a claim room, respect his place. switch servers and get your own room of treasure. besides, he will probably pick up the loot faster than you anyways.
Yes there is a difference between loot thieves, and treasure hunters.
-Loot thieves will take a creatures drop that was slain by another user as soon as it dies, or will hover over the drop until they can pick it up. loot thieves will follow a clan with nothing more than the thought of a profit, and will disrespect the clan's space to get it.
-Loot thieves are often greed driven player who wish only to gain more power and money, and will do anything to get such.
-Treasure hunter would wait on the side for the player to move on to the next kill, or show signs of not wanting said drop. Treasure hunters will often kill their own targets to earn their loot if they can take down said creature. treasure hunters will follow a clan more so to learn of the location of said treasures, and will then gather treasure respecting the clans space, for the clan is the one that lead the treasure hunter there.
- Treasure hunters are often wanderers who search for an adventure of some kind, as well as rare treasures / valubles of most any variety. Treasure hunters often will fight creatures who drop vast amounts of items, rather than scavenging after other players. this often makes them respected among many players. Treasure hunters often respect other players space, and will avoid overstepping respected boundaries.
The TLDR
in MMOs I am a often a Treasure hunter. Treasure hunting is something I find more fun than becoming powerful within a game. Treasure hunters will often enjoy a games world, looking for the unknown, and testing their limits on the way, often in search of a challenge, which will result in something beneficial after a positive result from such tests, often money, or items. Treasure hunters are win, Loot thieves are fail.
if someone doesn't get it I can answer any questions. if someone thinks I have no life for typing about this, then you are absolutely right. I am currently very bored and no one as of late has wanted to speak to me. this topic came to mind because I've been playing many mmos and I had realized that this isnt a topic many gamers speak of, nor think of much due to the Treasure hunters isolated ways, often ignoring other players only talking to those they find worth speaking to.
