Las Vegas Tip #2
Transportation

When you talk about transportation in Las Vegas, you HAVE to talk about The Deuce. If you've never heard about it, don't worry too much.

It's basically a large number of double-decker buses that run up and down the strip 24/7 at roughly 15 minute intervals (delays due to traffic, of course, slow it down). It's 3 bucks for a single ride, 7 bucks for an all-day pass, and at certain locations, you can pay 15 bucks for a week pass.

The first time I, my brother and my mom rode, it wasn't too bad. The second time, though...

stressed scream

The driver used "Drunk Logic", "TWO PEOPLE GOT OFF, THAT MEANS TWO PEOPLE CAN GET ON!"

Not when the two people who just got off were waif-like grandmothers and the two getting on are pork-beasts.

I think the problem was that we were riding The Deuce in the afternoon, which is primetime. We spoke with a gentleman who rode it frequently and he told us that it wasn't always that bad, but the overall experience left us unwilling to use it again.

Other than your own two legs, Taxis are probably going your primary source of transportation in Las Vegas. Taxi rides vary, but if you're trying to plan for your trip, assume each taxi ride will cost $25 (it'll probably be about $15 without tip, and I'd suggest you assume at least a $2-$3 tip), and if you're staying off strip, you should assume that you're going to take about 3-6 taxi rides a day. (1 to the strip, 1 to another point on the strip, and 1 back to your hotel)

As you can no doubt tell, walking is going to be the cheapest way around, but you should still expense for taxis since you'll undoubtedly get tired. Even if you walk 15 miles regularly, you'll get tired.

Las Vegas is HUUUUUUGE.

The Monorail is the last STEADY form of transportation you might use, and that's a mighty big MIGHT. And by Monorail, I'm not referring to the handy little monorail that a number of casinos on the strip have set up so you can go between a number of them.

I'm talking about the Public Monorial system.

If you're going to Las Vegas, I'd definitely take a good long look at the monorail's path, it's stops and how close it is to where you want to go and where you're going to stay. If it's a block or two, then it might be a cheaper method to get around.

But I'd still expense for taxis.
