Salathielly's Commonplace Log
Practicum (yet again!)
One of the children's librarians was out with bedbugs (ick), so the other one wanted me down there in case there was mass chaos during story hour. Fortunately for me, there wasn't, as I haven't really worked down there since I interned there a couple of years ago. I shelved and pulled some books for ILL while I was down there (and also assisted some patrons and checked out books). I spent a large portion of my seven-plus hours selecting and moving folders from the genealogy storage area (upstairs) into file cabinets in tech services (downstairs). Mostly I moved information on individuals and families, local history, and, of course, most things concerning the library itself. I found a couple of letters written by Harry Houdini to the woman who founded the library. I thought that was pretty amazing. Then I made new labels for the cabinet and made a list of all of the folders that were still upstairs so that anyone looking for them would know where they were. I attempted to figure out the Nero ROM-burning software, but either the burner or the computer was malfunctioning, and I failed utterly to make it work. I spent the remainder of the day reading shelves and helping patrons with computers, printing, and finding books for school projects.
