Pumpkin Pie Cake

1 box (2-layer size) yellow cake mix
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 egg
1 can (1 lb. 13 oz.) pumpkin
3 eggs
2/3 cup evaporated milk
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1.5 cups sugar, divided
1/8 cup butter, softened
1 cup chopped pecans (we don't add those because my mom dislikes nuts)

Remove 1 cup cake mix from box. Mix together remaining cake mix, 1/2 cup very soft butter and 1 egg. Press into 13x9-inch baking dish.

Mix together pumpkin, 3 eggs, evaporated milk, cinnamon and 1 cup sugar. Pour over crust. Mix reserved 1 cup cake mix, 1/2 cup sugar and 1/8 cup soft butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over filling. Sprinkle pecans on top (if adding nuts). Bake at 350 for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Serve warm with whipped topping.
