The Selfish Past
Here I am
Sitting in the kitchen
Of an empty house
On a suburban street
In a growing city
In a sunshine state
Yet the sun
Will not stop shining
And I am alone
I don’t want to leave
I don’t want to stay
Want has alluded me
Need has alluded me
Pleasure
Not found in the suns rays
Or the moons glaring light
I’m waiting
Through sun and moon
I am waiting
For her
For him
For somebody
To come and give me something
To want
Or better, to need
For why does the soul trudge on
Without need
To push it to coax it
Away from eternal hibernation
I always think about
How much I want
To go to sleep for a very long time
Perhaps forever
Should it even exist
All I know
Is for me
For now
I must remain awake
And away from forever
I’ll leave this house
And smile
Because that’s what the somebodies
Need to see
And like I said
I need somebody
