Meh..
Just writing for the fun of it...

~~~~ Snow ~~~~
Fading light streams danced on the bright skin of drooping flowers preparing themselves for the long, cold night. Leaves rustled as little creatures guided their exploring young ones to the safety of their nests. The quiet call of a mother squirrel, almost inaudible against the rising tunes of cricket symphonies, drifted into the night in search of her one missing child.
Down below the mother's nest, the baby squirrel paid no heed to his mother's worry. It nibbled curiously at a closing flower, tasting the soft petals before sneezing himself backwards. Twitching its bushy tail quickly with large eyes scoping the area in wonder, the creature journeyed further away from home.
Grass swayed in reaction to the little animal's paws. But, as it scampered carelessly onward, two peircing gold eyes watched it from a branch up above. A golden beak separated the eyes with a haunting glare. The beak slowly opened, the two eyes locked on the adventurous squirrel...
Hoot!
The squirrel stopped dead in its tracks, unfortunately in perfect range. It didn't notice anything as the two eyes shut and wings, short but powerful, propelled a feathery body into the air. From the darkness into the stream of lights, a graceful, snow white owl soared.
Swoosh!
The owl curved. Its body formed into a falling kite appearance, looming dangerously closer and closer to the frozen prey. Closer, closer, closer, until finally...
"YAHYAH!!" came the sudden cry of a young boy hidden in the bushes. His fluff of white hair streaked as he dashed at an incredible speed into the open. In a matter of moments, the young child stood with his arms out wide between the two creatures, his deep brown eyes countering the golden spikes of the slying predator.
The owl flailed frantically in mid-air, feathers flying wildly about. The struggle didn't last long; the owl had disappeared into the trees once again before the boy turned.
"It's okay. He's gone." The little boy whispered, crouched down over the terrified squirrel. Too shocked to move, the squirrel simply stared in response. The boy chuckled quietly and reached out his right hand, running his index finger down the baby squirrel's back gently.
"Go home, little fella. That mean, old owl is still out there." The squirrel remained paralyzed, but slowly shifted in reaction to the boy's soothing strokes. It darted away into leaps across the grass again, twirling around the trunk of his treehome until he was burrowing into his siblings' sides.
Arooooooooooo~!
"I'm coming, I'm coming." The snow-haired boy whispered to no one. He sighed a relief, proud of saving the life of another. It would be another one of those stories he'd tell his grandpa, once he got home of course. He already knew what the old man would say, but every repeat felt so good on such a wounded heart.
"'Heh heh, you did, eh? Well, what can I say with a heart like yours, Snow?'"
The boy smiled, pushing himself out of the bushes into larger beams of light. Damp leaves kissed his cheeks all the while, but he chose his thoughts over the now. He listened in his head as his grandfather continued in his low voice.
"Your father would have been proud of the son he loved so much."
