Kane strained his elven ears to hear a far-off conversation while his skin seemed to cringe beneath the guise he wore. It was imperative that he be hidden during his unwelcome visit to the human world. And the fact that these visits were becoming increasingly more frequent made Kane that much more disturbed.
He had designed the guise himself to make him appear as a young student, with raven-colored hair and pallid skin. In reality, his hair was a bluish-green color and his skin was a healthy tan. He wore the guise distastefully as it itched like a fragile cobweb clinging to his body.
Kane sat straight up in his chair, the conversation he was listening to pushed from his thoughts. He looked around the college library he had been lounging in and saw no change in the students studying nearby. She's got to be around here somewhere. And close too! Kane thought desperately as he felt it again. An energy wave. Like that of great magic being released into Earth's delicate atmosphere. Only one mage would risk a release like that, there.
Kane's fists clenched involuntarily and his guise shuddered slightly, like a t.v. image that was hit with static . Luckily, no one noticed, and Kane immediately stood. He moved around the library, turning over books to give the appearance of normality. The entire time, he was actually searching. Searching for the energy's source. Searching for Her.
