Song Translation Notebook
Exactly what it says. I post song translations that have (hopefully) been checked by at least one other person (although this depends on supply and demand in the marketplace of ideas - don't ask), and you read. If you want, of course. If you do, thou
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Opening theme to (what else?) Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Shimamiya Eiko

Ianeraregin...
Yawa nur t'nac uoy...*

Furimuita sono ushiro no shoumen dare?
You turn around, and whose face do you see behind you?
Kurayami ni tsume wo tatete yoru wo hikisaita
In the darkness, you raise your claws and rip the night to shreds

Amedare wa chi no shizuku to natte hoho wo tsutaiochiru
Raindrops turn to drops of blood and run along my cheeks
Mou doko ni mo kaeru basho ga nai nara
If I no longer have a place to go home to

Kono yubi tomare watashi no yubi ni
If you stop on this finger, my finger
Sono yubigoto tsuretette ageru
I'll take each and every one of your fingers away
Higurashi ga naku akazu no mori e
The cicadas cry in the forbidden forest
Atomodori wa mou dekinai
You can't turn back anymore

Hitori zutsu kesarete yuku aoi honoo**
One by one, the blue flames disappear
Kurayami no sono mukou ni asa wa mou konai
Beyond the pitch darkness, the morning will no longer come

Kagami no naka de ugomeki nobashite kuru musuu no te de
Countless hands writhe and stretch within the mirror
Saa dareka wo koko e izanainasai
Come on, lure someone here

Oni-san kochira te no naru hou e
Oh, Mr. Demon, come out come out wherever you are***
Donna ni nigetemo tsukamaete ageru
No matter how hard you try to run away, I'll catch you
Higurashi ga naku kemono michi kara
With the cicadas crying, I can no longer hear
Kikoete ita koe wa mou nai...
The voice I heard from the animal trail

Kono yubi tomare watashi no yubi ni
If you stop on this finger, my finger
Sono yubigoto tsuretette ageru
I'll take away each and every one of your fingers

*Hint hint: This line is read backwards
**An added note of translation is that "Hitori" is a people counter meaning "one person." Also, blue flames are often used by the Japanese as the appearance of departed souls. Given that, it's likely that the blue flames mentioned here are ghosts. I couldn't figure out how to add it into the direct translation, but wanted to make a note of it.
***The line actually translates to, "Mr. Demon, come this way to where my hands clap." This is a cultural reference to a children's game called "Oni" (or "Demon" wink , in which one child (the oni) is blindfolded and must find the other children by following the sound of their clapping hands. I tried to replace it with a line in English that got the same idea across.
