In late May of the year 2028, the first strains of the Marcher Virus appeared. The appearance was in the small town of Clayfield, Minnesota, spreading through a junior high school. Those infected were hospitalized as their sickness worsened. The first people who became infected soon died, as doctors struggled to find a cure to the unknown illness that had struck.
It was Dr. William Marcher who was first able to isolate and identify the cause of the sickness. It became known as the Marcher Virus, named after the man who identified it. At the time, people became hopeful that a cure or vaccine would be found, and no more lives would be lost to the virus. Unfortunately, all the hope in the world couldn’t help to eliminate the Marcher Virus. With each cure that was created, the virus mutated, becoming resistant and deadlier.
Before long, the Marcher Virus had spread to other states. As the spread began people called it an epidemic. Whole cities were quarantined in an attempt to stop the spread, but to no avail. Despite each the measures taken, the virus still found a way to move around and spread the infection.
When it crossed the ocean to reach other nations, people started to believe the end of times had come. A religious fervor erupted, with people proclaiming the Marcher Virus had been sent by God to cleanse the earth. Those who suffered it were viewed as heathens and shunned by those who believed the virus was a punishment.
