Wingnut's Log
Poetry, stories, anything I feel like writing.
Wingnut to Winged Newt...
The tale of my transformation, told through my eyes...

I was walking along in a forest, just enjoying the surroundings, watching a rabbit with a pocket watch run through the forest, followed by a blond girl. It was the usual day, they never tired of this game so it was a usual site. I decided to take a quick nap, so set down my staff and laid under a tree, dozing off.
A short while later, I was awoken by a quick prod to the forehead with the staff. Looking up and rubbing the growing bump, I saw an young woman standing over me. "Oh, did that hurt? I just meant to wake you, sir..."
"Next time, might I recommend shaking me." I stood, looking her over. She couldn't be more than a few years older than myself and she was beautiful. Long, dark hair flowing down her back a short way and bright blue eyes, complementing her pale complexion.
"My greatest apologies..." She handed me my staff. "Might I make it up to you some way? Perhaps a cup of tea? I don't live far from here."
Not one to pass up an opportunity, and not wanting to insult her hospitality, I willingly obliged, and after a short walk, we reached her small cottage.
"It's not much, but it's home." she smiled at me, motioning to some chairs around a dim fireplace. "Please, sit. Relax."
"Thank you." I smiled, setting my staff by the door and sitting in a chair. The room was snug and comfortable, despite it's size.
"I'll be right back." the girl left and, true to her word, returned in a few minutes with a tea kettle, two cups and a loaf of freshly baked bread.
"You had this all ready?" I asked, amazed at her speed.
"Oh, it's nothing. Not that much to do around here, really." she sat down, pouring the tea into the two cups and handing me one. "Why, if I may ask, were you asleep in the woods, sir?"
"Please, call me Wingnut. And I was just out for a walk and took a short nap." I smiled, sipping the tea. It was fantastic.
She giggled a little as she heard my name. "Forgive me." she quickly apologized, trying to stifle them. "...I just saw you laying there and wanted to make sure you weren't...dead or something."
"Well, I'm alive and kicking." I chuckled, taking another sip of tea. "Say...this is giving me a funny feeling..." I had started to feel a little dizzy and tired.
"Funny? Funny how?" she seemed to slow down as she said it. Everything was slowing down.
"Li-like..." my eyes sagged shut and I fell back in the chair, dropping the tea. The last thing I saw was an evil grin on her face.
"Ooooh." I tried to sit up, but I had a splitting headache and any movement killed.
"Oh. You're awake?" Her smile had become a devilish grin, and the girl had become older. Much older. Somewhere into her thirties, I'd say.
"W-what did you do to me?" I asked as my vision came into focus. I felt different, so I looked down and turned a ghostly white. At least I would have, if I hadn't now been a lizard, maybe a foot long from head to...tail. "Ah! Your tea turned me into a gecko!"
"Actually, you're a newt. And it wasn't the tea. That merely knocked you out. My spell changed you."
"Then...what are you gonna do to me?"
"Hm...I could always use more eye of newt for my potions." I was terrified a she reached down toward me. My legs didn't want to move, frozen, but I forced them, trying to squirm away. It didn't work and she captured me in seconds, holding me up to her face. "Listen. I'm gonna give you a little trade in exchange for those beady little eyes. Okay?"
"No!" I shook my head, but she wouldn't listen., closing her eyes and chanting something under her breath. Suddenly she released me and I frantically scrambled not to fall...then I didn't. Reopening my eyes, I saw that two white feathered wings had sprouted from my back.
"There. Now you'll be a winged newt. A blind one, though." the woman held out a strange tool I'd never seen before, and I wasn't going to let her catch me again. As she wrapped her arm around me, I used my wings to slide my slimy boy out of them. Not wasting a second, I flew toward the open window, forgetting about my staff and fleeing, not stopping until I was safe back inside my own house.
"Now what do I do?" I exclaimed hopelessly, flying over to my computer desk and landing in front of the keyboard. "Well...guess, I can at least tell my story. Maybe someone will believe me." and I set about typing. "The tale of my transformation, told through my eyes..."
