Chapter 12: The Spark of the Battle








Not far from the battle ground, a man wearing a long black jacket, boots and belt and white hair, shirt and pants leaned on a wall of an abandoned Inn. Watching the kids fighting the countless wolves he had summoned with his magic, he then took out a black pocket watch from his left pocket and examined the time.

“Just a bit more” He muttered as he put away the watch and looked at the kids fighting again “he’ll be here soon.”

As if on cue, a man wearing similar clothes appeared as if from nowhere and practically glided towards the white haired man. He was slightly taller than him and had spiky Blonde hair, he looked agitated about something.

“Rough day Killy?” he asked without looking at him.

“Shut up.” He muttered as he looked at the fighting that was occurring not far from them “Is that the kid?”

“The same one” He said with a grin on is face “care to bet?”

“You serious?” he asked

“Very.” He replied.

“Fine, 400 shards on the Kids.”



Silence fell upon both men; serious thinking took place with the white haired man as he looked at the fight. Then with a slight movement with his hand, a loud howl was heard and the wolves left the battle field and disappeared into the outskirts of town.

“I’ll make things more interesting.” He said as he took out his Japanese style sword and slammed the blade onto the floor, muttering Summon under his breath.

Suddenly, a giant wolf, bounded in chains appeared from the ground as it rose, like an elevator. Howling loudly, the wolf glared deep into his master’s eyes with its fierce crimson eyes. Unafraid, he cut the chains with blinding speed and pointed a finger towards Roy and the others.

“What are you doing?” Asked Killy “Aren’t you supposed to bring the Crider kid in, not kill him?”

“True, but I want to see if this kid is to be feared as master says, Red Eye, I want you to take out that boy and his friends, do you understand?”

With another loud Howl, the giant wolf screamed past the master and Killy and towards Roy, Matt and Yuki.

“If he beats my Red Eye, he gained my respect.”







“LOOK OUT!” Matt yelled as he pushed Yuki out of harms way and avoided the giant paw that was going to smash them. Yelling a warlike cry, Roy ran past Matt and Yuki and tried to wound the giant beast with his sword, but to no avail. Its skin was too hard for him to penetrate; it was as if he slammed Edge on a gigantic boulder.


“What the hell?” Roy yelled as he jumped back and nearly avoided the giant jaws that were now foaming on the sides “there’s NO way to cut through his skin!”

Matt aimed his bow at the Wolfs eye and hit it dead on, causing it to howl in pain as it lost sight of his left eye. He then began to clamp wildly, nearly taking a giant chunk out of Matt leg as he too jumped out of harms way “You have to hit it with magic Roy, use your fire magic!”

Roy stared blankly back at Matt as if he spoke another language, he never used his magic as a weapon, just as an outburst “Um, I don’t know how to make it…”

“Just yell your element, which is fire, the object you want it to go, Edge, and transfer your magic into it!” Matt yelled as he began to dodge the outraged wolf which now was angrier than ever now that it lost its left eye. Suddenly the gigantic wolf began slipping on the spot and fell as the floor around him began to freeze over, Yuki then yelled Icicle Pierce and a rain of icicles fell on the wolf as it laid growling and whining on the floor.

“Do it now!” Matt yelled as he saw the opportunity to strike the wolf.

“Got it” Roy said nodding his head. He grasped his blade with both hands and yelled FIRE BLADE at the top of his lungs. What happened next was both humiliating and horrible at the same time, a giant spark blasted from the tip of Roy’s sword and landed on Matt’s Cloak, causing it to go up in flames. Yelling for help, Matt began to run in circles, desperately trying to put out the fire with his magic. When Yuki finally stopped Matt long enough to see the flames which was now engulfing him completely, she yelled Ice and diminished the fire small enough for Matt to cast his Water magic on it.

“Sorry Matt!” Roy yelled as he saw Matt shoot a nasty glare at him.

“ROY!” Yuki yelled “You gotta really focus yourself on what it is you’re trying to do!”

“Huh?”

“If you’re going to be channeling magic using Edge, try and concentrate all your power on that bit! Imagine your power burning on that sword, focus your mind!”

Imagine my magic burning Edge Roy thought as he grasped his sword again and closed his eyes Burn the sword, burn the sword, burn the sword…

“FIRE BLADE!!!”

The air around them began to turn stuffy as Roy’s sword blazed brightly in his hand, fire surrounding it and feeling quite cool in his hands. Roy grasped it and looked directly into the wolf’s open right eye. Roy began to run towards it, sword at hand and mind set, he never once strayed away from the wolfs eye, closer he got to his destination, ready, set, and before he knew it, blood tinkled on every inch of his body, he had done it, the wolfs snout was no more, it’s face unrecognizably burned and its spirit gone, it was defeated. Feeling woozy, Roy fell on one knee and remained looking at the floor, magic gone, stamina depleted and eyesight blurred. He tried to lift himself with the sword, but soon stopped as Matt and Yuki helped him up, each grabbing an arm.

“That was great!” Matt said as he looked at Roy’s eyes and gave a thumb up, Roy tried to do the same but even his fingers were too hard to lift in his condition.

“He’s still not used to his newfound magic, so it’s understandable that he gets really weak after using it, but over time you’ll get used to it!” Yuki said happily as she too gave a smile to Roy who could not return a single gesture or expression back.





“I guess you lost that bet.” Killy said coolly as he brushed his spiky blonde hair with his right hand and outstretched his left hand.


“Guess I do” Said the white hair man as he reached inside his pockets and dug out a small pouch with exactly 400 shards inside.

“It’s as if you KNEW you were going to lose” Killy said questionably as he shoved his winnings inside his pocket.

“I had a feeling” he said as he took another look at Yuki, Matt and Roy who were heading away from the battle ground, they were still helping Roy walk “Roy Crider, huh? I’ll see you again one day, and when I do, I hope your stronger, I can kind of tell WHY the lord wants you.”

With that, the one called Killy and the white haired man began walking out of town a disappeared without a trace.



“I think I can walk now.” Roy said as they reached the entrance of the town, he pushed himself off Matt and Yuki and began to brush off the dirt off his jacket.

“You sure?” Yuki asked in a worried tone as she saw Roy wobble a bit.

“Of course he can!” Matt said grinning as he whacked Roy on the back and made him fall on the ground, face first “Crap, I’m sorry Roy, you ok?”

“Yeah, I’m good” Roy lied as he cursed a bunch of times on the ground, as he pushed himself off the ground, the footsteps of two people were heard walking towards them.

“It’s a miracle you can even STAND, god, I can’t believe trash like you still exist in this world.”

Roy looked up and to his surprise; he saw that the one talking to him was a girl with long black hair and light blue eyes; she too had a blade on her back, just like Roy. Her companion was a young male around the age of 17; he had big glasses and short black hair. He was carrying what looked like a clipboard.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Roy said with intensity in his voice as he regained his strength and stood up.

“Exactly what you think it means dipshit, and if you think luck is ALWAYS going to be on your side, you up for a rude awakening."
