I'm an artist and often times, i get the standard, "OMG, you're so talented" when i present something i've slaved a great deal of time over. It's so true isn't it? Everyone says how good it looks when you can pin point every single flaw in your piece eh?
But what gets me is that often times people use the term "talented".
I don't believe in any sort of real "talent" or "genius".
If you start anything early enough, then you can seem very talented when you're 10 years older. Hell, if you started something right now, despite how terrible you might be at it, i can guarantee that as long as you want to improve, and you keep at it, you WILL improve.
That's what you're really looking at in a work of art. Improvement over A VERY LONG PERIOD OF REFINEMENT.
Sure, talent might be a slight innate advantage based on how our brains work, but since we each have a lifetime to spend doing what we want to do, i'm sure such innate advantages aren't nearly as big as most people tout them as to be.
Eitherway, stay "talented".
