A very interesting two-book manga based off of an anime (usually it's the other way around). The basic premise of the book is that it based is far, far into the future of an Earth where people live inside domed cities and most of the planet's wildlife has died off. But there is an ancient legend (there always has to be a legend) where the Flower Maiden will call the wolves to her to lead them to Paradise. The book starts out with a shot of the Flower Maiden being held in a large scientific-looking tank while being studied be scientists. The scene cuts to the streets of the city where we are introduced (very gradually, in fact for the first chapter we don't even know their name's) to the main characters. Four wolves who are masquerading as humans (because wolves can apparently do that) are brought together by various circumstances to search for the Flower Maiden. After a wild goose chase through the wilderness, as well as some much needed character insight, they find that a crazy noble (the apparent upper class of this post-apocalyptic world) has kidnapped her. The story progresses from there, throwing in too many side plots for just a simple two-book series. All in all, it's a pretty good read, but as a warning to help you keep your sanity: don't try to understand it all, just watch the anime.
PG13 For gore and mild swearing
Rating (out of ten) 6.5 (for a very confusing storyline)
